Yes, they should be doing a lot more. So many people get into accidents. Some are caused by texting. If they come up with more ways to keep people safe then there would be less accidents.
I think the government should do more about distracted driving because a lot of people get seriously injured or die.

But while people are texting and driving or being distracted by other things, they don’t realize the danger they putting themselves and other people in as well. I would say that i think they should try harder to stop it, but it would probably just be another waste of money. I think we need to have cellphones that you can easily voice activate. I know smart phones can already do this, but we need ones that will work from a distance. Like you could say “Send text to .” Say, “.” End text. Send. This would only reduce distraction, for two reasons. One, texting isnt the only reason. Also, talking would still be a distraction, though less of one.

Yes, I do think that the Federal Government should be doing more to prevent distracted driving. It’s good that there are states with laws against texting and driving, but all 50 states should have that law. These laws are not meant to be irritating, they are meant to save lives. i think the government should make it so the newer cars make your phone shut off. this will stop most distractions. the rest should be controlled by the driver and the people inside the car with them. they can stop most of this with a nice ticket.

I think that yes they should be doing more do prevent distracted driving. There is a very high rate of accidents from distracted drivers and sometimes people end up getting killed. The government acts like there paying a lot of attention to it but to be honest i don’t think its a high concern of theirs. I think the government needs to step in and do something about more to prevent the distractions for the drivers. The more distractions there are the more people are going to get hurt or worse die. The flashing lights on the signs telling the drivers to be careful aren’t helping either. They are more then likely as much a distraction as anything else.

It’s well known that drunk driving is illegal, but there are still mass numbers of people that do so. To prevent the distracted driving, the government could put up more of those speed meters on the roads [in case of a speeder] or station more cops out next to the roads.

I think they should because people are dying out there. They need to make sure people have their eyes on the road at all time. And people need to shape up and follow the law or else they might end up dying and it’s non of the government’s fault. It is their fault because they didn’t obey the law.

Although texting while driving is one of the major components of distracted driving, it is not the only one. Distracted driving can come from other people being in the car and talking to each other or the driver. While the government can put laws on texting while driving, they can’t fix all problems of distracted driving because people under the age of sixteen or those who cannot drive need to be passengers. So there isn’t much that the government can do to prevent these types of distracted driving.

I think that the government needs to do more by preventing distracted driving because so many people are getting killed from it. All states should have the law that all states can not text during driving. The government needs to enforce the law even more than they already do because so many people are still texting on the road and causing people to die.

Ii think the federal government should be doing more about distracted driving because their are so many things that can distract people while they’re driving like phones, music, other drivers, and many others. Even billboards add to the distraction because even if you look away from the road for only a few seconds that could still start and accident. Because if they get distracted then they could crash into another car on the road. Especially with all the new kinds of phones that are being produced like touch. When really if your eyes are off the road even for a second to use text with even one hand you could get in an accident. There are too many car accidents due to people who get distracted while driving. The government should do more to prevent distracted driving, and one of the ways they could do that, is to give the big car companies money so that they can build a car that drives itself safely. There is a University in Iowa that had built a machine that makes you feel like you are in a car and tracks everything that you do so that they can see what causes crashes and accidents. I think that the government should do more to crack down on distracted drivers but it is challenging to do because there is next to no plausible way to enforce laws against distracted driving. I think that the only way to really make something work would be to team up with the private cell phone companies and car makers and somehow develop something to prevent a phone working while in a car. Many cars now days have software such as SYNC that try to cut down the distractions and maybe that technology should be standard on cars within the next few years. Until then, it is our responsibility not to text and drive.
I think that texting while driving should be banned for the simple fact that not everyone can text and drive. I honestly dont think that if you put more laws on texting and driving or whatever other things they plan on doing its not gonna make a difference. Some people have distractions in there day to day life. Like my Uncle Chuck he works for the fire department and hes got that dumb beeper thing that goes off when ever they get a call and as soon as he gets it he has to leave. The one day he was going out to dinner with his wife and he got a “beep” right in the middle of driving he had to take his wife home and get right to work. I just think it depends on the person and how well they handle the distraction. Some people are more jumpy then others so if they see something there reaction to the distraction will be different.

I think they should make texting while driving illegal nationwide, not just in the states that texting is illegal in right now. I think they should just make any use of phones illegal as well. Calling or talking on the phone will distract you also. Other than those two things, i can’t think of any other distractions. Maybe they just need to make driver’s education harder so good teen drivers will be on the road.

I do not think the federal government should oversee control of driving safety. The ability to text or call while driving is a decision for the states, not the federal government. They can not make a national requirement to not text while driving, but could offer suggestions and ideas to the states. The states should do more to stop distracted driving, because too many people injure others at their own foolishness, and should be held responsible for injuries and death. This would also help insurance companies, because there are less accidents.

When they passed the law of no texting while driving people thought that no one would catch them and they still do it. If your job requires talking to clients on the phone, then it is required to talk in the car. I think that the federal government SHOULD do more to prevent distracted driving. I think it would prevent a lot more car accidents, and save a lot of lives. Some people don’t care, and feel the need to text while driving, and they don’t understand how much danger they’re putting themselves and other people in. If the government creates more laws and rules to prevent distracted driving, more people would probably listen to it; but without rules, nobody is going to care enough to stop.
I do think the government should put more effort into making people drive safely. I think that government really needs to crack down on distracted driving. There are tons of car accidents that happen yearly due to distracted driving. Answering a simple text takes 4 seconds, Is it worth your life to answer a text message? No, you can wait until you have stopped your car. Getting distracted in the car can cause accidents that sometimes result in the deaths of innocent people who were just trying to get somewhere. Three may not be much that the government can do but they still can punish those who are caught.

The Secretary of Transportation SHOULD definitely do more to stop distracted driving. Distracted driving can get people killed and for some people, they are even very cautious. However because of another persons driving, they had to pay consequences. Police however find it hard to stop people from texting while driving. So what they are doing is watching the person until they break another law, like maybe illegal lane changes, wreck less driving, or other, more expensive penalties.
