CNN BLOG: Friday, April 27th

A new study about teens and distracted driving says girls are more likely to engage in dangerous or distracting behaviors by almost 15 percent. The girls who were surveyed said some of the biggest distractions include reading texts, eating behind the wheel and having other passengers in the car.

Your Question: Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? Possibly setting up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots? Why or why not?

Please take the time to review your post before you post it. Make sure you have capitalized the first letter of each sentence. Make sure there are no spelling errors and that you have written three to five complete sentences.

  1. I think that they should target guys too not just girls. I think that they should watch out for them but not stalk them. I do think that teenage drivers are not experienced drivers. But overall they should watch out for all young drivers.

  2. No, I do not think that police should target female teen drivers. I think this because, when you target someone/something that’s all you really pay attention to. So, police should target ALL teen drivers, but they can focus a tiny bit on females. If they just target female teen drivers, then that means that guys can start slipping up. Even though people say stuff like, listening to music is distracting, having people in the car is distracting. Every bodies ideas of whats distracting, and whats not, are different.

  3. The police should be fair to everyone and not camp for the teenage girls. They shouldn’t just target one person. They also shouldn’t camp outside outside our school parking lots because they would catch way to many people and fill up the squad car every day. It isn’t very fair for teens but the cops would benefit a lot. I don’t think the cops should catch this many people because it isn’t very good for the kids. It’s all about the kids.

  4. No, I do not think they should target teenage girls. To target them would be stereotypical, and in general quite rude to girls. If they target girls it’s basically saying that guys are good drivers and girls aren’t which is entirely false. On the other hand they do need to watch out for people texting while they are driving. And I mean every one not just teens. I also think that there should not be police cars parked outside of high schools because it just makes some kids nervous and feel bad about their driving.

  5. I do not think that police should start to target female teen drivers for distracted driving. I think this because it is not just teenage girls that do things while their driving that distracts them. Teenage guys do it as well, even though it’s more often females and they make up the majority of the people it is not just them, so they shouldn’t be the only ones targeted. They should set up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots. I think this because there are a lot of teenage drivers who do things that distract them and stuff, and it would make it safer to drive.

  6. Yes because whenever we are this age, a lot of people tend to text a lot, especially girls behind the wheel. If we do have this occur, then there will be a lot less crashes and a lot less pain. I think a few high schools already have parking patrol, and I think we have that at our school, so if we’re good with the parking patrol here, then we’re good to have parking patrol in high schools because there are a lot of drivers that are worse than we are.

  7. Why do they have to make it all about girls? why not include boys? And no we do not need squad cars sitting outisde watching us. that’s a little weird.

  8. i think they should target males and females. I think that they should have a car outside of the parking lot. I think that this would be a good idea.

  9. I don’t think that teenage girls should be targeted because so many other people text and drive and get distracted. I have seen many adults get distracted and swerve into other lanes. People go through a fast food drive through and a lot of people who do that eat the food in their cars. Its dumb to target people like that.

  10. No I think that they shouldn’t start targeting girls, because that would raise alot of controversy and boys would think that they could get away with more things. There is obviously going to be more teenagers crashing because thats just teenagers.I think maybe putting one police on patrol in high school parking lots would be a good idea.

  11. I don’t think that the police should only target female teenagers because that is stereotyping. They should look for anyone that if distracted while driving. A lot of teenagers are killed due to distracted driving and we need to try to keep that from happening.

  12. Oh yeah. The cops need to station outside the school just to make sure that all cellphones are turned off during driving. Teenagers can’t just live their life and not worry about death. Death can occur unexpectedly.

  13. I think that police shouldn’t target a gender more than another because that just seems like they’re taking these studies a bit too far. I also think that intentionally setting up squad cars outside of a school is a bit unfair because then they aren’t monitoring anything really they are just waiting for some poor kids to mess up their driving. This really does take it a bit too far. You shouldn’t always just take surveys as facts. The second part is even worse though because you’re spending money to make some kids’ lives miserable because they won’t have a license after a month of getting it.
    #GirouxPirouette

  14. I don’t think they should just target females because we are not the only ones that text or do other distracting things. So i think that they should look for teens that are getting distracted because more teens text than adults.

  15. No because yesterday the police were targeting Hispanics and they were arguing that the police weren’t treating them equally, therefore the same exact thing could happen if they target female teenagers. I think that they shouldn’t position a squad car near the school just for that reason, because there are more dangerous crimes and areas to deal with and patrol.

  16. Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? Possibly setting up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots? Why or why not?
I don’t think that they should target females more than males because we both have the problem. But, it isn’t a bad idea to have a squad car outside of the high school parking lots. Teenagers will at least not text and drive when they’re around the cop, saving people from possible injuries or even death.

  17. no I do not think that the police should target the girls driving and not on use boys to. it isn’t really far the report said that 15% more what about the 85%. it is just not far to them.

  18. No i do not think that they should be targeting Female drivers because that makes it look like they are favoring the guys. They should just keep an eye out to see why is doing it and arrest or give the tickets to them. They should still set up the squad cars no matter where they are. I’m sure that not that many people will get caught at the Howell High School parking lots because they are about to get into school and they can just text in the hall ways.

  19. I think that if the police would make a law that girl drivers use their phones then
that would be not nice. It is unfair and not right. The police shouldn’t have to
make a law to ban phones. We shouldn’t even use them when driving.

  20. As much as us women hate to admit it, we do have a lot more distractions that we set up for ourselves when we go driving. We do our make-up, our hair, text all our friends, etc. more in cars than I know most boys so, since boys don’t really wear make-up or style their hair. With that being said, I don’t think we should target women. There are plenty of boys out there who most likely do things in their cars more often than girls do. Teenagers as a whole are new to driving and are going to be bad drivers in the beginning, and will most likely pack distractions in. So, we shouldn’t just target the girls. Targeting the girls would seem like something such as racism. In the end, we should just pay attention to ANY bad drivers who could be potentially dangerous to themselves or others. If there are more teenage girls, then so be it, but we shouldn’t single them out.

  21. No, that is sexist. I believe that they shouldn’t target girl teenagers, because they aren’t all like that. I think that your personality and who you are should matter, not you sex.

  22. I say no i think that they should target both men and women. I think that they should set up squad cars so that the teens driving pay attention. also it could help lower accidents.

  23. i don’t think they should because it is just not female teens it everyone get distracted some times.also i think that teenagers would get more distracted more because they are just starting to drive. another thing is that some people get distracted eraser then others.

  24. I do not see why police would have to just look at woman’s and girls driving more than anyone else. All gender and ages are guilty of being distracted. A lot of times teens are the only ones targeted for distracted driving when really adults are just as bad. We should , if budget allows, have a police car outside of high schools.

  25. No, i don’t think they should do that, unless they have major reason to pull them over than that’s a different story! Yeah a lot of the time girls are distracted with putting make up on or texting, but i think unless the officer see’s them do it with his own eyes than i don’t think he has the right to pull them over.

  26. No, police should not be just targeting female driving. Its sexist. There is actually probably a lot of guys that act or are just like how they say girls are driving. They shouldn’t just be like oh shes female lets see if shes doing anything wrong. Don’t treat us like we are below you just because of this test they did which could also be proven wrong with a different batch of people they look at you never know.

  27. i think that police should target teenage girl drivers because it is dangerous for them and for others because they can severely hurt themselves or someone else not on purpose.

  28. Not to be chauvinistic, but I do think that the cops should be a little more strict with female teenage drivers because a lot of them are the cause of accidents.. Even before they leave the parking lot! I speak from experience. Girls have things like, make-up, friends, cell phones, music, hair styles and even food that distracts their driving! I definitely agree that female drivers should be watched like a hawk. (Some of them think they don’t have to abide by the “No Texting” law, trying to sneak around it which ends up causing serious injuries and sometimes even death.

  29. I don’t think that they should only target teenage girls, we’re not the only ones after all, even if we are the most distracted as a group. I think that it would be a good idea for a squad car to be near high schools, just to keep everyone safe. Maybe then people will start to take driving more seriously.

  30. YESSS they should target females because they do text more and are more of a risk to get in a accented because they are text or doing something else and if we can eliminate this then we will have no problem and there wil;l be more lives saved

  31. No, because this is basically stereotyping that all teen girls are bad drivers. They shouldn’t be targeted either. Also having a car wait outside the high school to catch them would be ridiculous.

  32. No, because I think they should look out for everyone who drives distracted. Not girl teenagers more than anyone else. I think it’s bad that they are distracted easier, but lots of people are really distracted when they are driving.

  33. I think they should definitely target them, because they are in more accidents from texting than men are. This could be just because guys are better drivers, or they know how deadly cars can be. They should also set them up at high schools, because this is where alot of younger girls drive.

  34. No I think that they should target everyone more. Targeting just women isn’t right. I think that they should be more cautious of all teens. I do agree with the set up outside parking lots of high school. That’s a good way to try and stop teens from texting and driving.

  35. Perhaps, since girls do text more than guys, especially while driving. Yes squad cars outside of schools would be a good idea to help. But they shouldn’t completely target just girls, because guys can be distracted while driving too.

  36. I don’t think that police should target female teen drivers. I think that because everyone is at the same risk for distracted driving, not just teenage girls. I don’t think it is necessary for the police set up squad cars. It is almost taking it too far. I think they should be watching everyone on the road because everyone has the same chance of getting distracted whether you are a teen or adult.

  37. I would say yes, because I think girls’s text more than guys. When they get in their car the first thing they probably check is their phone but that’s my opinion.

  38. No, i don’t think they should because unless they have a major reason to track them then they shouldn’t do that. Guys text and drive too so it is not just us girls, the police should be tracking what everybody does and not just one gender.

  39. Cops should start to target women drivers. from my experiences, women are worse drivers a lot and are easily distracted. It’s not sexist if there is evidence to support something. Stats don’t lie…

  40. Yes and no. I don’t think the police should target just girls but also boys. But i think the squad car would be a good idea because that is a good way to catch someone who is distracted driving.

  41. No, Girls don’t need to be watched even if they do text more then us guys.

  42. I think that police shouldn’t just try and target them but have more attention on them. There have been incidents where my mom almost crashed because she couldn’t put her phone down. So women need to have an extra eye on them so they don’t cause any deadly crashes.

  43. Yes, because it seems that teen girls are usually the ones texting while driving, or talking with others in the car. Putting someone outside the school will not solve the problem. They will just get the phone out or talk after leaving school.

  44. yes, but it should not just be women it but also be men. this is because more than jut women drive while distracted.

  45. I think the police should begin to watch female teenage drivers because they seem to text more while driving. It can be very distracting and i think it might possibly cause more accidents. It would just make it safer for the rest of us for police to watch female teenagers just a little better. But police do not need to sit in High school parking lots.

  46. i do think this is good, but guys should be involved too. If they are not its just steriotyping.

  47. I think that police should target everyone who is suspected for distracted while driving. If police only target female teens then yes we would stop only the teen girls. But it wouldn’t stop all distracted drivers because men and women do it to. So police should go after everyone.

  48. NO?! They should watch out for everyone not just woman. Thats discrimination. Yup if a girl go’s by speeding cops can pull them over but if a guy go’s by at 100mph they don’t need to get them

  49. no, i dont think they should target them, but i think that they should watch out for them and make sure that they’re not doing anything that dangerous.

  50. I feel like that is almost stereotyping, targeting women drivers. But if the statistics show that female drivers are more likely to be distracted behind the wheel, i believe that putting police cars outside of high school parking lots would be a good idea. But targeting women drivers is to far, anyone can make mistakes behind the wheel.

  51. I think that they shouldn’t just target female drivers because they aren’t the only ones that are being distracted while driving. I think that it would be a good idea to have police cars outside of the High Schools. A lot of students need to drive safer.

  52. i guess they should to make them more safe but i don’t think that the should get fined

  53. Yes, I think that they should go out to high schools and target teen drivers. Not just females I would target all teens because male teens do it too. I think they should start patrolling all of the high schools because a lot of teens do text and drive.

  54. if satistics show they are more distracted then yes but they shouldnt start pulling them over for no reason.

  55. yes i think that cops should break down on that law because i feel very unsafe when either i’m driving down the highway with my parents but i don’t like when my mom drives i feel that i will die because she wont hang the phone up when she drives.

  56. I think that they should target everyone that is texting while driving. It’s not just the girls who are doing it. There are guys that text and drive too. If you are caught driving and texting you should get your phone taken away or just a big ticket. I think it’s fine to talk on the phone and drive but not text.

  57. I think they should target anyone who is distracted driving, not just female drivers or teen drivers, because some adults still are distracted drivers. Also, squad cars would help with distracted driving, but it would be a more help if there are more undercover cops disguised as a regular civilian driving a car pretending to go somewhere, because then they could see what people are really doing when there is not a police officer around.

  58. i think police should begin to target female drivers because im a male and maybe that would reduce the risk of me gertting pulled over and i think its funny and no i do not think that cops should observe students in the parking lots of highschools because i do not like cops.

  59. I think it would be a good idea to put squad cars outside of High Schools. It would keep the parking lots safer and it could make the students cut down on distracted driving. But i think they should also look for distracted guy drivers too, the girls are not the only ones who get distracted.

  60. No because I don’t think it is right to single out girls even if they get more distracted. Guys are distracted while driving too and think the police should just be on the look out for more distracted driving with teens. I really don’t think that girl teens should be singled out because of this stat though.

  61. I don’t think it should just be against female drivers. I know recent statistics have shown that females are more reckless, but if they are going to put in enough effort to do that just for the girls then they should be watching the guys too. It can’t help to watch them as well, if anything it’ll just make it even more safe.

  62. I think that rather than targeting a specific gender, the police should probably just be on the lookout for all drivers. I think this because it is doesn’t matter who is a better driver as long as people aren’t into car accidents. Also I think that they should put a squad car at high schools just as a safety precaution.

  63. yes because girls love there phones and they did a study about phone a Phoebe. that is where u lost your phone and you will freak out. and its true.

  64. I do not think they should set up squad cars outside of the high schools. I think that if they see someone doing in on the highway is a different situation but just waiting for someone to slip up isn’t right. I also think the fact their targeting more female drivers rather then male drivers is pretty sexist too. They should be watching everyone, not just females.

  65. I think shouldn’t be just girls who get monitored, everyone should. Yes, there may be data that states girls are 15% more liable to distracted driving than men, but it seems stereotypical that Police would just target one group, than rather doing their job and targeting everyone.. but I do think that could be a good idea to put observation cars around a high school if they wanted to resolve the issue.

  66. I think that they should target them because they do text more than us. But, they should target everyone else as well. Not just girls.

  67. I think that squad cars outside of the high schools would be a good idea. It would encourage safe driving and reduce accidents. Texting should not happen while someone is driving because it is dangerous.

  68. I think that they should target them because us girls can get pretty addicted to texting, and some may think that it is necessary to text while driving. Not just girls can do this too. Even my dad texts while driving (sometimes). This shows that not just teenagers and not just girls text while driving.

  69. i don’t think they should just target females yes we might text more but doesn’t man we will a lot of men text while drive to, and putting squad cars out of the high school parking lot maybe going way to far with it., even though they might be helping with peoples safety there is a safety hazard if police just sit there on the side of the road trucks and other cars need to get by and even though police get the right away but i still just don’t think that they should crack down just on girl teenagers just be more careful and not driving and texting.

  70. i think it would be a good idea but not just for girl teens guys too because they could also get in crashes. if cop cars set up around the school or other areas people become safer drivers and more aware of everything thats going on. Then that could lead to less crashes.

  71. I really think they should put those squads. A lot of girls I see driving are jumping around inside the car and not even looking at whats in front of them. It’s crazy. Sometimes I wonder how they even got their license. And the worst part is that since they will likely crash, they could kill someone else. Or just badly injure them.

  72. I guess there should be a few police cars around high school parking lots, but not to ‘target’ only girls. That’s just dumb. They should be ‘targeting’ everyone. Boys and girls, and adults.

  73. I don’t think that the police should look out just for the girls. The fact that if your a bad driver and get distracted easily isn’t just a girl thing. Many guys get distracted too. I think that the police squad car outside in high school parking lots is a good idea though. Many accidents happen in parking lots because people feel that even though they are going slower means that they can’t do as much damage as they would on the road. The squad car would provide for not only the drivers but make sure that the pedestrians in the parking lot are safe as well.

  74. I think they should watch for anybody, any teens that are texting and driving. Not just girls! It’s not only the girls that are texting and driving, its adults and guys too. It’s not fair to girls because they aren’t the only ones that text and drive.

  75. I feel that if a police officer as to target females in particular it would be a case of stereotyping a group and it could be taken the wrong way.If a car was posted outside of the school to watch for both genders breaking the rule it would be a good idea.

  76. I think it would be good if they did have the squad cars out there. I don’t the think though, that they should only target girls because that’s kind of sexist. They just nee to make things safer by the schools, so no one gets hurt.

  77. I think cops shouldn’t target women because it is sexist. But setting up outside schools is a good idea but only once a while. It cant be a routine because then kids would catch on and wait till there away from school and be careless.

  78. I don’t care either way, because even if your not texting while driving some loser might be and if they hit you and its not your fault you still gotta pay in some way.

  79. No I don’t think they should target teenage, female drivers. I think this is a stereo type to girls. There should set up observations out side of high schools.

  80. Yes and no, because some people would feel like it’s an invasion on privacy. But yes, because they would be much safer and have more control of not looking at there phone because there being watched. And that will make them more consecrated.

  81. The police should target any teenage driver, not just females. Police should focus on just about anybody not just female teenagers because they think females are more distracted. They should set up an observation area near a high school parking lots to observe who is driving the car and for who is distracted.

  82. I don’t think that police should zone in on teenage girls. I also believe they shouldn’t set up observations outside of high schools. This would be sexist towards females.

  83. yes they should target them because there a big promblem right now. they should work on better phones that can help the cause as well.the police should be at the places that most girls crash at.

    • Girls aren’t the only ones who crash, bro. Girls aren’t the main problem. Anyone can get distracted. Any GENDER can get distracted.

  84. I think that police should keep an eye out for ANY distracted drivers, not just teenage girls. I see many older people on the phone or texting when I am in the car. I also think that police should be in the high school parking lots. I think this because they can catch more than just distracted driving, maybe they will find someone underage drinking in their car.

  85. I think they should. Most teenagers are more distracted than adults. Also it would help to save lives.

  86. Sure,if it makes other drivers safer on the roads then the police should target teen girl drivers because safety matters.

  87. I don’t think that police should start targeting just female teenagers. If they are going to target teenagers, they should target both male and females. If they try to target just females, that wouldn’t be very fair.

  88. I don’t think that they should be just targeting females. Males text too. It would be unfair to the females. Because if they are going to pull over teens for texting then don’t just target one certain group, enforce the law on all.

  89. I think that it would be a good idea to put squad cars outside of the high school. Many girls like to check their phone while driving and if they put the cars outside they could keep people safe from accidents. Also I think it would prevent girls and also guys to stop checking their phones while driving.

  90. I think setting police cars outside of schools would be a good idea. That way they can monitor all teen drivers and make sure they are driving safely. If they catch them texting or using their phones they can give them a warning, if they continue they could face consequences at school.

  91. I think they should target female drivers that are distracted wen driving. But i think they should just target distracted drivers in general. If they do that will help save lives and prevent allot of car accidents.

  92. I think that the police should target any driver for distracted driving not just female drivers. Setting up more police cars could help with lowering the amount of accidents, but police need to watch all distracted drivers not just the females.

  93. I think that they should target everyone with a cell phone to be a potential distracted driver. I don’t think it’s just females, although we do get distracted pretty easily. I think they should watch everyone.

  94. I think that they should just look for people who are driving badly. If a cop sees someone swerving off the road…. your going to get pulled over no mater if you are a guy or girl.

  95. I do not think so. I do not think age is the main reason for car crashes, and I do think people have exaggerated on it being a big deal. I also believe it is not girl’s or guy’s, but it is more of their personality. Lastly, I think before cops start going for people on the road, they need to improve their services first so they can deal better with problems going on that second. They need to focus on what is happening, not what might first.

    #Revolution

  96. I don’t think that the police should target women drivers. Although the statistics show that girls are about 15% more likely to drive distracted, they also show that young teenage boy drivers have a much higher accident rate than girls. Yes, girls are more likely to text and drive, but boys have been proven to get in more accidents and crashes so there is no need to target girl drivers only.

  97. I don’t think that just females should be getting targeted. Yes, girls drive distracted but guys do as well. Teenagers, all of them do. Actually, everyone in general. So just targeting females is ridiculous. They should target everyone, not just females.

  98. I think police should start to focus on female drivers because they are on their phone more then guys, but they should still focus on guys too, they’re no flawless either. I don’t think they need to set up for observation in high school parking lots. That might be going to far, and guys DON”T BE SEXIST.

  99. I think that police should target anyone who is being a distracted driver, not just females. Its not just females that are being distracted its males too. I don’t think the squad cars outside of the high school would be a good idea. We don’t need to spend money on stupid things like that. Police should just be more careful to watch out for teens who are being distracted drivers.

  100. I don’t think that police should start getting after girl teenagers for distracted driving. Girls aren’t the only people who drive distracted. They other day I saw a guy in his early twenty’s maybe and he was texting and driving at the same time and he almost caused and accident. They shouldn’t start setting up stake outs at high schools. More of the accidents happen on real main roads and highways then anything. It is just discriminating against girls. I think the honest truth is that girls are better drivers but accidents are caused by other people on the road.

  101. A lower rate would be better.

  102. I think that they shouldn’t target teenager females because we might be worse then guys but really we haven’t even got all the rights the guys do. We couldn’t vote until 1920. We weren’t allowed to play sports. We get payed less at some jobs. I think the government and other people targeted women to much over the past and now. Maybe we have distracted driving but it’s more likely for a guy to be drunk and driving, and speed more often then us females. I think that it’s kind of an attack on us, it’s not fair.

  103. I think that police should target any driver who is distracted no matter what their age or gender is. I think that setting up squad cars will not really help at all because once they students leave the school they are just going to do it again. No matter how many laws the government puts into place to stop distracted driving there will still be people who do it.

  104. yes, i think that police should start to target teens for distracted driving but not only girls, everyone could do it. Also it could save a lot of lives, because being distracted while driving has killed thousands of people so far and we need to put an end to it. Also it will make teens drive more carefully if they know someone is watching them and could catch them.

  105. I think that the police should target all female drives because we are more likely to get into a crash because of all the distractions. I think that they could observe from outside but the people are going to know that they are there so they are going to be more careful. I think that the parents should also not allow their child to text and drive.

    • Amanda? Your supposed to be on the girls side with this one. I think we are better drivers and don’t get distracted as much as the guys do. I have seen a lot of guys get in crashes and kill other people or themselves.

  106. Yes, i do think they should take more precautions and set up some squad cars outside of a school parking lot so they can monitor the driving. It is a danger to the driver and people just walking to their cars and should be carefully watched so that nobody is accidentley hurt. There is an every more growing numbers of driving teens and they do text so there is more risk of accidents happening.

  107. no, they can’t target just teenage females that is profiling. If anything they should be watching all teenagers for distracted driving. It’s not cool to target specific people i bet that all teenagers are not smart behind the wheel

  108. In my opinion yes because these teenagers text a lot and to be honest I do too but this can really hurt the person that is texting while driving. Several teens might think that they are good at texting while driving, well you might think that but you can still get yourself hurt and it will hurt not just you but a lot more people.

  109. I don’t think that the police should start to target female drivers because it isn’t fair to them. If they set up squad cars then people will think that something is wrong and the drivers will try harder to drive better resulting in more crashes. Targeting females doesn’t help show equality because you are targeting one gender. If you are going to go out of your way to target females you should also target males.

  110. I think cops should not only target female teen but also teen guys. The reason for that is guys do things while in the car like changing songs texting. It would be a good idea to station cops outside of high school parking lots.

  111. No i don’t think they should. It cant be just girls who are distracted drivers. I don’t think its a good idea. Teenagers are probably the most distracted drivers though.

  112. I think that they should have some cops posted outside high schools to look for distracted drivers from girls. And outside of the school look on like m-59 and other main roads for people looking down or giving the idea that they are texting and pull them over for that crap. I think that they should do this because we have a family friend that was hit and almost killed by some girl in her twenty’s and now he has a fake hip and I think that people caught texting and driving should lose there license and have a prison sentence.

  113. No, I don’t think police should focus more on girls because if they used all they time watching the girls then guys could start to become more distracted drivers. Only 15% more girls are distracted drivers but what about the rest of the girls that can drive without distraction? But, I do think it’s a good idea for them to have police stationed outside of high school parking lots because both girls and guys can get distracted.

  114. No they shouldn’t start to target teen girls because one its sexist and yes we might test more than guys but they do it to and if police officers are always focusing on the female drivers they might miss a guy that us texting while driving. High school parking lots have a lot of people who text/talk on the phone after school so observations there will be good but they should also keep an eye out for the staff that use their phones as well as the students.

  115. No. I don’t think that the police should just target female drivers ONLY. Unfair and stupid.

  116. Yes they should target girls but also guys. We may get distracted more but guys get distracted just as easily. But yeah they should set up an observation outside of schools. Just to see if anyone’s not paying attention so everyone can have a safe place to drive.

  117. This is the same as the Arizona law. You can’t single anybody about because of race, age, or gender. It’s called profiling and it’s not okay for law enforcement to profile an entire people. You can’t ask for somebody’s immigration papers simply because they’re of a non-white ethnicity. You can’t target women because they’re statistically more likely to distracted drive. Although, they should station police in school zones to watch, in a fair manner. If there are more troubles near schools then it is not profiling in any way, it’s identifying a problem spot and trying to fix it.

  118. I think that that they should just watch everyone no matter what gender. Plus how hard is to just put away you phone for 30 mins. Also maybe the get into more accredited because it was the other person.

  119. This is very sexist but, yes I think they should target whoever is doing the most damage on the roads. I don’t think they should set up squad cars outside the high school because that really won’t do anything, the people texting would just wait until they passed these police cars.

  120. i dont think that they should have to sit outside of the school they should just maybe ask people or put up pictures in the school of teens who have died becuase of driving and not paying any attention but just dont point out the girls spread the word around to everyone becuause it is a very good thing for everyone to know and learn about.

  121. No, I don’t think they should just target girls because guys do it just as much. I think they should become stricter about texting and driving but not just targeting girls. Guys get very distracted when driving even if it isn’t texting or eating. Guys will get mad if someone is trying to pass them or something which can lead to just as bad accidents.

  122. I think that they should focus more on the girls. They text, talk and do more distracting stuff then guys. Having patrol cars around a high school is a good idea because they can stop teens from texting and driving. Which will help prevent crashes.

  123. I that the police should target teen girls for having their phone and texting while driving and anything that distracting because it could save so many lives that it kills a lot of people every year for being distracted while driving. They should set up an observation and see what happens when girls drive while being distracted. I think its a good idea.

  124. I think that the police should target teens for distracted driving. Yes they should set up observation outside of high school parking lots because its happening all over.

  125. Yes, I think police should watch more for dangerous and distracted driving, especially outside schools. It will help teenagers realize what they are doing can kill people.

  126. Yes, and no. I believe that they should because it’s the law to not text and drive. I don’t think they should because it’s sexist. Just because females seem to get into more car accidents, doesn’t mean they have to be a target.

  127. I don’t think they should. Because if they start to set up squad cars going after female drivers then it can be considered sexist. I also think that anyone can get distracted behind the wheel because their is a lot of technology now a days that makes it harder for teens to pay attention to the road.

  128. No! absolutely not! Just because we have a bigger percentile of girls getting into more accidents than guys doesn’t mean that guys are always perfect and all girls are stupid and play with their phones when there driving. If there going to follow any teenagers around then it has to be all, not just girls its being sexist almost and its not fair.

  129. Police should be cautious and watch out for teens in general. Girls shouldn’t be critisized because they have a little bit of a higher rate. Guys have the same problem and should be equally observed.

  130. Police shouldn’t target girl drivers primarily. But, they still should keep an eye on them if the statistics show that teenage girls are worse then boys. Overall, I think all teenagers are bad drivers.

  131. I think that they just need to have more rules on teen driving instead of targeting just female teens. Its sexiest and wrong. Its only 15% more then guys.

  132. I think they should set up squad cars for observation outside of high school because they could save many peoples lives. I also do think that girls would be more likely to get in an accident because they would be more likely to text or get distracted by something. If teens got caught doing this they might not do it again in the end.

  133. Personally i think the surveys are just stupid. Yes females are proven to be worse drivers, but to start and ticket younger drivers, who are just starting out is wrong. They are just getting use to having a car. We are still young and we aren’t as mature yet, and we don’t have sully developed brains like a woman yet.

  134. Oh yes, women should be definitively be more targeted. I don’t even think it should be legal for them to drive considering how many accidents they get into and how many times the run a darn red light because their friend Melissa texted them. It is just unfortunate that no one else see’s it from my point of view. If I were a cop id definitely set up outside of schools because women always run stop signs in the parking lot.

  135. yes, i believe that the cops should do that because girls are naturally not good drivers. they get distracted way too easy and they like to crash. I have seen girl drivers that speed way too much over the speed limit and they tailgate like a mother. I dont even thing that girls should even be able to drive at all because they are just horrible at it. They should take away all of their licenses.

    • Our quality of driving isn’t worse than guys, its just the distractions are proven to be worse. So for you to say that we are naturally not good at driving is a bunch of crap.

  136. I think they should. Setting up squad cars outside of highschools could really force teen drivers to wake up. Distracted driving is dangerous!

  137. Yes, girls aren’t good drivers in the first place, but then when you put a phone in their hand they get distracted way worse. They need to just go through a longer driving course because obviously the ones already here don’t work very good for the girls.

  138. I think they should, because we do really stupid things. Girls always text, talk, or don’t even pay attention to the wheel sometimes. But I also disagree because it wouldn’t be fair to the girls if they are always being watched and they might feel like somethings wrong with them.

  139. I think that would be a good idea. If they did that then maybe we would get an even lower rate of car accidents. i think it would be more safe.

  140. It is my birthday, therefore, I am an exception to the blog today.

  141. I think they could have someone out there watching the school parking lot because teenagers do get distracted easily with texts and other things. I think it would make it a little more safer.

  142. I don’t think it should just be teen girls, because teen boys do just as much distracted driving as the girls do. I thin they should put police cars up by the schools pull outs and parking lots to keep kids safe and to prevent future accidents.

  143. I think police should pay a little more attention to female drivers. If females are causing more accidents, then they should be kind of targeted more. But all tenages are still bad drivers.

  144. Personally, i think that the whole survey idea was kind of dumb. There are so many people out there that think all teens are terrible drivers. I think that’s kind of stupid because these people only look at a small number of teens driving, when there are thousands of teens driving nowadays. Also, to just target teen girls driving is sort of sexist. If they really wanted to profile teens they should look at both genders.

  145. i disagree that police should target women drivers because guys drive distracted to and that could cause problems if the police concentrate on women drivers. i don’t think they should set up squad cars around the schools because one there are probably not enough patrol cars to set up at a school and watch the rest of the town at the same time. i also think its not cool that the police would even consider to focus on women drivers and how many distractions they have if they should focus on a women driver it should be my mom she is the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DRIVER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  146. I don’t think that they should target girls more. Maybe they should just look out for girls more, but it proved that 15% of girls get in trouble, but that doesn’t mean that they can just target all girls. All teens should be looked out for. They’re still new to driving. & it isn’t sexiest at all. It just is saying that girls just talk more on the phone and get in more accidents. Where guys just drive and get there. But there is guys that get in trouble for texting and talking on the phone it isn’t just girls that do it. I will admit i talk a lot on the phone. But still just all teens should be watched out for.

  147. i do believe women are more distracted drivers and possibly just bad drivers in general. however i don’t think they should be targeted by police. its sexist and probably offensive to all the girls in this class. i say girls are bad drivers from personal experience with nearly every girl i get in a car with.

  148. I don’t think that police should target girl drivers. Not all girls text while driving and its there fault if they do. They should know not do to that but its there decision on what they do.

  149. To be frank, this is one of the dumbest questions I’ve ever been asked. I won’t even go into why we shouldn’t begin gender profiling. I think the fact that racial profiling exists is absurd within itself, but this is just over the top.

A 15% margin on a survey (how did they get this data?) couldn’t possibly constitute a change in police enforcement. Even if it’s true that women are more likely to get in the crashes, it shouldn’t affect police enforcement. That’s the bottom line.

Anyone who agrees with the premise obviously didn’t think about it for more than a couple seconds.

  150. I think all teenagers are horrible drivers, the gender of the driver is irrelevant. I’ve seen a 17 year old guy drive and a 17 year old girl drive cars and I can tell you I was scared in both cars. The parking lots in front of the high schools are some of the most dangerous places to drive or even walk around. There needs to be police in areas where people drive around a corner full speed without even looking to see if there was a car or a person. I know that when I walk through the Howell High front parking lot I try to get out of there as fast as I can. i even watched a male driver from this school go up on the side walk for like a second.

  151. I think that police and school security should look for distracted drivers leaving school. But I do not think that they should only look for females because they are not the only people that text and drive distracted. I think this because then we could keep more people safe from car accidents. It may help lower accident rates and save lives.

  152. Even if new data shows that females are easily distracted behind the wheel, I don’t think they need to pay anymore attention. I think that police should pay more attention in general to drivers, male or female. I also think this is ironic in a way because people always say that guys are more reckless behind the wheel because they want to see how fast their car can go.

  153. no i dont think police should target teenage drivers dont target anyone treat everyone the same

  154. Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? No. What kind of question is this? This shouldn’t even be a valid argument. And of course there are going to be more crashes by teenagers, we’re just learning how to drive. Texting while driving is more of a problem with more experienced and comfortable drivers not 16 year olds that just got their licenses.

  155. I know girls are stereotyped to be distracted with “make up, and looking good” and even being “horrible drivers”. They both are probably true but if police pull girls over for distracted driving and not just guys, that would be pretty wrong. I actually think police should pull everyone over for distracted driving, it’d probably save lives…!

  156. i think that female drivers should not be targeted just because they are distracted more. they should not post up squad cars outside high schools because that’s not needed. younge drivers crash more because they have less experience behind the wheel.

  157. Yes . But then again i do think they should for both males and females i think that high school students care more about there phone and stuff then paying attention to the road and what they are doing. Even though females text more then any boy . I also think the squad cars would be a great idea it would save a lot of lives and it make make the roads a easier place to be and people no be worried about people being distracted on there phone.

  158. I believe that they should set up police outside of the schools just for drivers. It would make a better, safer place for everyone. It would make me feel safer from female drivers.

  159. Anyone should be watched for distracted driving. There’s no need to just focus on the woman. Teenagers should be targeted more, but to have to set up squad cars for observation might be a bit much. People are just going to go back to it after they are outside of that area. Something should be done about it though.

    • Indeed. Targeting specific people leaves more leeway for other groups to get away with breaking the law.

Profiling is just a worthless waste of time

  160. I don’t think that female drivers should be targeted. Its only 15% so i don’t think that the police should turn their attention to mostly female drivers. I think that anyone could cause an accident boy or girl for being dumb. But if they were to do something they should lower car insurance on guys.

  161. I think that the police shouldn’t just target women they should target everyone. It doesn’t matter if a certain part of the population is distracted more than another anyone could cause an accident and a lot of people do things while driving so don’t waste your times at just schools when you should be on the roads that have the most traffic.

  162. Yes, I think they should set up squad cars outside of the schools because it could prevent lots of accidents and problems. In my opinion, teens don’t really pay attention while driving, but if they get warned, it could stop.

  163. I think that female teenage drivers because we worry and think about getting more things done so we have a good chance of being distracted. However, I don’t think this excuses the boys’ driving either, police officers should watch them too. I think teenagers driving should be monitored equally because girls worry and do different things than guys do and both deserve the same amount of supervision. Just because girls are usually concerned about their appearance doesn’t mean boys can’t be distract while driving as well.

  164. I don’t think that police should be targeting female drivers for distracted driving. I think this because, its not just female teen who are distracted, it could be, men, women, teenage boys, grandparents, ect. On the other hand i do think that they should set up squad cars for observing outside high school parking lots because being in high school all of the people there aren’t experienced enough to control everything that happens when they are in a car, so i believe squad cars would help save lives, and accidents from occurring.

  165. i think that they should. Everyone thinks its sexists. Maybe it is, we are all somewhat sexist. If the report said men, the women would be saying yes, and the other way around. We should do whatever to stop people from dying.

  166. Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? Possibly setting up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots? Why or why not? I refuse to answer the first question because it is ignorant, And im not surprised that this is the question today because its a great reflection. I honestly don’t even know what to say because this isn’t even a valid question, and im wasting my time.

  167. I don’t think so at all. I know for a fact that I text more than almost any girl. The only time I’m not texting is when I’m at practice or driving. Police officers don’t need to worry about just girls, cause I know guys do it too, and they’re already targeting teens where we live, so I think they’ve got the idea.

  168. No, I don’t. I think that it’s sexist to only watch distracted drivers that are girls because I think that guys are not perfect either when they’re behind the wheel. I think that if police are going to be sitting outside of high school parking lots, they should be watching everybody.

  169. I think everyone should be targeted, but i will say some girls can get distracted extremely easily. Putting squad cars in parking lots might be a little over the top, but if they find that it helps then go for it.

  170. Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? Possibly setting up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots? Why or why not? No because its really sexist and not all females are bad at driving. Guys could crash too. Yes they should put a squad car by high schools.

  171. they should be more aware that female drivers may be distracted easier and look for ways to stop them from being distracted. i also think they should have cameras in the parking lots because then they can pinpoint kids who are making themselves distracted and confront them about the problem of distracted driving. we should also find a way to get people to stop eating, texting, calling, listing to iPod s, and all the other distractions inside the car.

  172. That story is one of the stupidest things I have herd. And compleatly sexiest. Men get distracted too. My dad has gotten into allot more car accidents then my mom. And yes, 16 years olds get into more crashes, BECAUSE WE ARE JUST STARTING AND WERE INEXPERIENCED! So No, I do not believe that girls should be profiled more then guys.

  173. Yes i do thin that they should be watch all the teen drivers. not just the the girls cause thats kinda sexist.

  174. I think that it is a good idea to set up squad cars in school parking lots. Not to try to get kids in trouble necessarily, but to give kids the idea that if they text and drive, they will be caught and that would hopefully make kids not do it in the first place. But I don’t think that 15% is not a big enough number that you should treat female and male drivers any different.

    • i agree we don’t want to punish them we just want them to be aware that being distracted when driving is a dangerous thing that can be prevented.

  175. Yes, they should start paying more attention to what the driver is doing. But it’s not just females. All teenagers should be observed carefully behind the wheel.

  176. Yes because girls get distracted easy behind the wheel , like make-up and texting and all this other stuff to “prepare” for school. I think it would be best to just have people at the entrances before school and after school.

  177. Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? Possibly setting up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots? Why or why not?

No? Why would we allow cops to have the ability to basically do female profiling. Guys do it too, its not only girls. Just do what you’re doing now. Be more strict if need be! Order to have a blue tooth or something! This would be just wrong.

  178. I don’t think only females should be monitored. Both genders do it and I think both genders should be watched. I think people need to bring more awareness to the fact that texting while driving, or eating, is very dangerous. I think that setting up “squads” outside of the parking lot would be a good way, but there is no way to catch everyone and it is the drivers choice, which means that they need to know the risks and realize that they need to be responsible which driving.

  179. Yes, i think that they should do this. Because they are not only dangerous for their life, it is also dangerous for a lot of other people around them. If we do this then a lot more people will be safer, and texting related crashes will go down.

  180. No because that would just wast time and money because that means that they are sitting there in stead of stopping other crimes

  181. Sure, why not? It’s been proved that girls are more distracted when driving. Its better to get pulled over than kill someone. I know that it is not just girls who are distracted when driving it can be anyone.

  182. I do think that females are more likely to text while driving than males. But i don’t think that they should be having squad cars. i think that’s too much. I know that their trying to prevent crashes and such, but i think they would be going over the top with that.

  183. yes, because they have a higher tendency to text and drive other than guys. They also do makeup while driving and that is very distracting and will cause accidents. So this proves guys are better at driving.(:

  184. yes because teenagers text talk and carpool more than any other group of people.they should set up the squad cars for observation out side of high school parking lots. there are a lot of teens driving at the high school.but its not just the teenagers that are doing this.

  185. Police should monitor distracted driving in general, because it’s not only present in the female race.

  186. Yes, because distracted driving takes lives and people do it everyday. It isn’t only with female drivers also with male. I think men might text more when they drive but women have makeup and other things. It might not be a true fact because it was only a survey, but yes distracted driving is bad.

  187. No I think they should target all teen drivers. Every single teen texts and has their own specific distractions. It is sexist to only watch the female drivers. Although the survey shows that female drivers are more distracted everyone should be being watched because a lot of people make the same mistakes this survey says women do.

  188. I think that police should just do there job and stop everyone…thats the law isnt it. There shouldent be a debate about it. its the polices job to enforce the law. Yeah as teenagers we are distracted but were still humans. Just because were younger doesent mean anything. My mom texts and eats all the time while driving. She texts and stuff more then my 18 year old sister. So i think that the police should just do there jobs and if they see it take care of it.

  189. Police should not start to target females for distracted driving because we are not the only ones to participate in this! Police should target ANYONE doing this behavior. It is not right to just look out for females. I think possibly setting up squad cars and such would work out that would target everyone.

  190. Yes, i do think that police should start targeting teenage drivers. But not just the girls. They should target all of the teenage drivers. The girls might be the biggest offenders but that age group in general are the most distracted drivers in a whole of a group.

  191. I don’t think that only females should be targeted. I see that as being sexist. Not just girls are bad drivers. The same thing we do guys do. They text, they eat, they do everything we do. Everyone has a little part in it and i don’t think its fair to just blame girls for it all.

  192. I think that just targeting female drivers for being distracted is degrading and sexist. Men and Woman both can be equally distracted. Studies only show that woman are more distracted drivers by about 15% which is not a huge deal. I think that anyone who is driving while doing other distracting tasks should be targeted by the police. Not just females.

  193. Well we should not just target only female drivers because that is kind of sexist to only target them. If we were to have that we should have it for both genders not just women.

  194. Yes, because teenage girls get easily distracted. I mean anyone driver can get distracted but teenage girls love to text and they’ll even do it when they are behind the wheel.

  195. i think that they should not target girl teen drivers. they should look all of the teen drivers, because a lot of teens look at their phones when their driving.

  196. I do think that teen drivers should be observed more often because they are new. They should not be punished if they make a little mistake, but given a warning. Police should not harass teens.

  197. I don’t think female drivers should be targeted more for distracted driving. Everyone should be treated the same while driving because distracted driving is a problem for a lot of drivers, not just women! It’s a stereotype that women are worse drivers then men, i mean, that’s why insurance is so much higher for teenage boy drivers right? Police need to target anyone who is distracted driving because it is dangerous no matter who is behind the wheel.

  198. I think that sounds like a great idea. But I also believe that they should look at both boys and girls. That is a great way to stay safe and keep other people who don’t text while driving safe as well.

  199. I think they should. Female drivers spend too much time on their phone as it is, so they can at least take a break while their driving. I think setting up squad cars would actually be a really good idea. If this happens, then we can lower the amount of accidents from texting while driving.

  200. I think police should pay more attention to woman only because woman focus on other things like their hair, makeup, and texting and a lot more but the point is, is that woman get easily distracted while driving. Only after they get into a accident or get their license taken away for multiple offenses on driving while distracted they realize they can’t drive while distracted. Overall its not being sexist its being logical

  201. Anyone driving a car should be targeted for distracted driving, not just girls, and if the police do put up an observation point, people will probably just go back to what they were doing before after they are out of the schools area

  202. I do not think that women should be specifically observed because many teenage drivers drive while being distracted, regardless of gender. They should have squad cars monitor school parking lots because teenage drivers usually don’t have the experience to make good decisions, like not reading texts while driving. There is also very irresponsible driving around the school including speeding around corners and driving through red lights.

  203. Yes, because girls always text and don’t pay attention. But the police should also look after the guys because some of them do the same thing. I think that its a good idea for the police to stay outside of some High Schools to observer because a lot of people skip classes. The police could watch for people if they are skipping classes or not.

  204. No, I don’t think that police should target driving teenage females. Instead they could just enforce the law against texting and driving. I don’t think it would make a huge difference in the amount of lives saved.

  206. Yes the police should start targeting female drivers for distracted driving. If we did this we would be saving a lot of peoples lives. But i think that putting squad cars in front of the school is a little bit over the top and it would make some people unhappy.

    • Yeah they should, but they should look our for all distracted drivers. I’m sure there is a lot of male distraction of driving also.

  207. I think guys need to be treated with a bit more fairness. Just because most police officers are guys, doesn’t mean they have to be all goody goody to hot chicks. They pretty much just pull us over for adjusting our mirrors! And girls get to get away with downing tequila! Well.. Not really. But they need to be supervised just as much as us, and I agree to the whole squadron thing in school parking lots.

  208. Yes,i do think they should just target female drivers. Also i think them doing this can save lives.I think girls are worse drivers especially teenage girls because they are inexperience, and to social.I know this because my grandmas has almost killed me multiple times.

  209. i think that they should target all teen drivers. Targeting just females would create an unbalance and also the guys would feel like they don’t have to be as careful when they drive. Setting up squad cars is a good idea because it would let the students, staff and parents know that they should be aware of how they are driving. Just because girls were shown to be a little more distracted then guys doesn’t mean that guys don’t get as distracted too.

  210. i do not think the just female drivers should be targeted, all high school are not great drivers, gender does not matter they have only been driving for a little bit and have nowhere near as much experience as other drivers. they should watch both male and female drivers the same.

    • Yeah i think it is wrong that they can target teen drivers. Its not right because we just started driving. And i guarantee that teens didn’t all of the sudden just started getting bad. Our parents and adults started out bad too.

  211. I do not think police should not specifically target women. In my opinion that would be sexist. It wouldn’t be any better than the law specifically targeting Hispanic people as illegal immigrants. I think that police should just up their efforts on distracting driving in general, and not target specific groups.

  212. Yes because the amount of teen crashes is higher than any other age, but I think they should watch guy drivers too. Girls usually crash more, but I see guys do alot of stupid stuff in cars too all the time. I think it would also be a very good idea to put squad cars in highschool parking lots.

  213. I do not think that it would be fair to target only female teens. Police should target all teenagers who drive distracted, not only women. It is proven that girls get distracted more easily, so they may get pulled over more, but that does not mean that guys shouldn’t be watched as well. I don’t think that having squad cars in high school parking lots is really going to solve the problem, because if a student does text and drive, they will just wait to be out of the cop’s view. I think the only way to solve this problem would be to catch drivers in the act, which takes time.

  214. This recent study says that girls are more likely to to be distracted while driving than boys, and girls interviewed said the worst distractions were texts, eating behind the wheel, and other people in the car. First, I think this is ironic since most insurance companies charge more for young male drivers than female, because guys are considered more reckless. However, just because girls are now considered “reckless” as well, doesn’t mean the police need to take any more drastic measures. Yes, young drivers get in more accidents than more experienced drivers, but the police can’t do much to stop it. Besides, it’s like texting in class. If a driver sees a cop, they’re going to put their phone away. Cops’ time should be spent on more urgent problems, like drunk driving.

  215. I don’t think girls should be targeted by police for distracted driving. Everybody is guilty of distracted driving at some point or another and if the focus is all on the girls the police are going to miss the guys doing it and then guys are going to have higher distracted driving rates. I also don’t think they should set up a cop outside school parking lots because I feel like the kids are going to be paying attention to what they’re doing then more than they would be on the freeway.

  216. No they should not because its not just the girls that do it, they should be watching teenagers in general. I think that i would be a good idea to station outside of schools because then students wont be as tempted to drive when they are distracted

  217. I don’t think that police should only be targeting women. They are not the only distracted drivers on the road. The police should be targeting anyone that drives while being distracted. It does not bother me though that police are patrolling schools, this will make kids less likely to do something stupid like bring drugs to school or start a fight.

  218. Police should watch for anything suspicious, even if it means to target female teen drivers for distracted driving. No one wants to be responsible for the death of another because they had a text that, “couldn’t wait”. They are just trying to make the road safer, and there is nothing wrong with that.

  219. No i do not think they should target young females. I think this because regardless of the statistics that girls are 15% more distracted than boys, the police should be watching over everybody equally because anyone can be driving while doing stupid things that distract you. But the police should be more aware that girls are more likely, but not target them.

    • I totally agree. Just because girls get distracted more easily doesn’t mean that guys don’t at all.

    • I agree. Everyone drives distracted from time to time, even older drivers occasionally. It isn’t just a problem with young girls.

    • I think the cops are having a little trouble with distraction too. Something to do with what most girls have on them all the time. Donuts and coffee!! Those cops. But in all seriousness, it’s true. Cops need to step up and play fair

  220. I think they should set up squad cars around the high school. It might help limit distracted driving.

  221. I don’t think that police should target female teen drivers. Even though females are at a higher percentage both male and females still drive with distractions. I don’t think that they need a observation because it doesn’t happen really in the parking lot like it does on the road.

  222. No, I don’t think that just females should be targeted, because we’re not the only people who are responsible for distracted driving, and not all females do it. I think they should look out for teens in general that are distracted, because females are not all at fault, there are alot of males who drive while they are distracted too.

  223. I don’t think that they should target girls. Mostly because everyone will think it’s sexist and start problems. Also you should not have cops sitting outside of a school parking lot watching. The teens will act right that close to school and if they don’t then the consequence is their car is wrecked

  224. I don’t think that the police should target girl drivers because that’s sexist. If they were smart they would know not to be stupid and text while driving. It’s sad, but if they get in a car accident that’s there fault because they should know not too.

  225. If the police start to watch anyone it should be every driver there is. It inst fair to just target one type of drivers because we all have problems with distracted driving and it needs to come to an end. There is no need for squad cars outside of schools to watch the teen drivers because they are responsible enough to think for themselves.

  226. I think that they should watch out for female teen drivers because they text more and always have friends with them. I think that they should set up stations to prevent it that will help. I think it would lower the accidents on the road

  227. Police should not begin to target female teen drivers more for distracted driving. I think they should target anyone that is driving with distractions, not just females. They also shouldn’t set up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots.

    • i Agree, distracted driving is a problem for a lot of people, not just women. It’s a stereotype that women get more distracted and we all know it

  228. I do not think they should highly target them. Because i think that is kind of sexist. I also do not think it is needed to put police officers in high school parking lots. Unless the crash rate is extremely high for that school then maybe.

  229. I believe they should target all drivers that are not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Girls are proven to be worse drivers, Men also make mistakes behind the wheel. I think they should set up spots all around towns and cities and not just schools. I think that schools have a very short range of effect on drivers.

    • I agree with your comment about setting up squad cars all around town. I feel like if they are at schools, students will drive properly until they are out of sight, then start texting again.

  230. Yes, but not just female drivers, because guys do it too, but not as much as girls. I do not think they should stand out side of high schools because having a police officer there just might cause a distraction for the young driver.

  231. Q-) Your Question: Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? Possibly setting up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots? Why or why not?

A-) No they shouldn’t, they should have more cops patrolling everywhere because a lot of adults do the exact same thing that the 16 year old do. It is just the amount of experience that every person has. cops should just have a more enforced rule to stop many adults too.

  232. I don’t think that the police should just target female drivers. I do think they should keep their eyes open for every teen driver out there not just females. Teenagers tend to get distracted easier and more often so making sure they aren’t texting or doing anything bad would be a great idea. I think they should put squad cars outside of schools to try to prevent accidents.

  233. i think they should watch out for female drivers and i also think they should target men as well. i think it would be a good idea to put police at schools. but if they do don’t target just woman because3 i know men who text or do other distracting things while driving.

  234. yes, because we could save many lives by preventing teens from distracted driving. However, i think its rude to target women because males can be just as crazy drivers as women can. so there.

  235. I think they should they target girls more. If they are sure that girls have a more distracted driving rate, they should pay more attention to them. Not saying that the police should not pay any attention to male drivers, but they should try to decrease the distracted driving rate. And the way to do that is to watch girls more closely. They should have some sort of an undercover cop that drives around the parking lot when school gets out and they can watch the kids more up close.

  236. Your Question: Should police begin to target female teen drivers for distracted driving? Possibly setting up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots? Why or why not?
I do not think that the cops should TARGET only female teen drivers. I think this is sexist. I do think the cops should crack down on this issue more though. I think it would be a good idea to set up squad cars for patrol around high schools BUT the cops patrolling should focus on EVERYONE including the staff and any one else who uses the parking lot. They shouldn’t just focus on female teens.

  237. I don’t think they should target just female drivers because that’s sexism and it isn’t fair. Also, some guys text even more than girls do and most of us can stop texting to drive so we don’t get hurt. I do thing that they should station a squad car at high school parking lots because parking lots are where people should be most aware of what they’re doing when they drive, especially when there are kids around.

  238. i don’t think the police should target anyone because that is wrong. i do think they should set up and look for people that are doing something they are not supposed to. i think the worse thing i would do behind the wheel is eat.

  239. i think that everyone should be treated the same. i think the police should put an observation box outside of the high school because then the risk of distracted driving. i think everyone should be pentalised the same

  240. I think that they shouldn’t only target females because they aren’t the only ones that are texting, they might be the higher risk but they aren’t the only ones that are distracted while driving. I don’t really think that they should have cops outside of the High Schools unless they have a high risks of accidents. If the kids want to text and drive or do anything that is a risk to them while driving they will learn from it usually and than stop doing it cause they know what the outcome is.

  241. I think that police should really limit distractions for teen drivers, not just females because that would seem not fair they have to limits distractions for teens. I think that they should have squad cars outside of high school parking lots, to monitor teen drivers to make sure they are driving safely. If they did this it could make the roads much safer.

  242. I do not think the police should begin to target female teenage drivers for distracted driving. Yes, statistics say that they are more distracted than male teenagers, but that’s just a general survey. What if those statistics are only true in Detroit, for example; but in Howell, it’s the other way around? So the police should just be worried about teenagers in general, not just the female ones.

  243. Sure because if it is proved that they are more distracted. Then it would help a lot if they got pulled over rather than kill someone. But it is a good idea to set up squad cars at high school so even guys don’t get distracted.

  244. I don’t think that the police should target female drivers for distracted driving. The police should watch everyone of both genders and all ages because anyone at any time could drive distracted. The police also shouldn’t sit outside school parking lots looking for distracted driving.

  245. I think that they should monitor both genders because males do it too. But it is their fault if they get in a crash because they caused it themselves. But it is a good idea to watch people to prevent crashes and hurting others.

  246. Well, i don’t think that they should target chicks…that….weird…I think that the police should just target anybody that it on there phone when they are driving so then everyone’s safe.

  247. I think that police need to target all distracted drivers. It is mostly teens that get distracted while driving but I have seen many older drivers being distracted while they drive. They should pay more attention to teen drivers though because they are normally are more distracted.

  248. yes females should be targeted by the popo. ya they should watch all parking lots.

  249. They shouldn’t be targeting girls for texting and driving. It’s kind of a stereotype to say that all girls text when they drive. Because not all do and some boys text when they drive too. It would kind of sexist if they just targeted girls and they might not even be texting if they got pulled over. If they set up squad cars in school parking lots then teens most likely wouldn’t text if they knew a cop was watching. This was just about teenagers and a lot of older men could be texting and driving way more.

  250. No, I dont think that they should because that could be viewed as sexist and they aren’t the only distracted drivers on the roads. Cops shouldn’t target just girls or guys or any single person because of race, gender or anything else that you could factor into reasons to pull them over. I also don’t think that they should have squad cars at high schools.

  251. I think that they should not only target females they should target anyone that is driving distructivly. I don’t think that they should have the squad cars in the parking lot i just think that they should in force the texting while driving rule more serious.

  252. I don’t think they should target females noticeably more than males because then what if the males start acting up. I think both genders should still be equal with each other when it comes to supervision, but if the girls are still making stupid decisions then they proved they need to be “babysat” when they are driving. I think the police patrolling the schools is a good idea also. They can prevent more than just driving issues is they were to do this.

  253. yes because if teenagers have more accidents than any other people i think that police should be outside of high schools. They should target females because they have more accidents.

  254. i think they should because it can save lives. it could make them driven safer.

  255. I believe that women are worse drivers. This is not a sexists statement, and if i was a female i would say the same. This is because they are different than men, and to them staying in touch with their friends is whats important. This is not a bad thing, it’s just what they do. Women because of this often check their phones more, or talk to their friends more, resulting in distracted driving. Women can be better drivers and i know of many women who have been in few if any accidents. My mother and step-mother both have been in only one accident, but they started to pay attention. People must learn to just stay focused on the road, and not get distracted. Also, police should NOT sit outside of high schools and patrol. Just because that is where the most teenagers are, doesn’t mean that they have to watch. If they did do that, however, i would hope it was so people could feel safer because a cop can help. I hope that it isn’t because they’re sexist profiling police. Also, police have more important jobs to do, like give out traffic tickets to truly bad drivers, and help the public. So in my opinion women can learn to drive better, and cops should just do their normal job.

  256. yes they should target females because girls use there phones way more than men do on the road. plus there is the fact that guys are better drivers than girls. i don’t think they will target them more than men but they should keep a good eye out on them. it would make the world a safer place to drive.

  257. Lol, I don’t think that it is necessary to target only female drivers, because any one could get distracted while driving, but it would be a good idea for cops to look after all teen drivers.

  258. Well they shouldn’t just target females. They should target everybody that is texting and driving. No they shouldn’t set up squad cars out side of high schools because no one would do any thing distracting until they are out of the cops view.

  259. i believe that women a worse drivers then men are because obviously its scientifically proven. but i do not think that schools need to put squad cars at parking lots to make sure they can get into an accident. cops cant do anything to stop and accident they can only sit back watch it happen then report it then have the paramedics take care of the hurt people. accidents dont even happen in school parking lots they happen every ware else but their so people just need to stop trying to fix everything obviously its not working.

  260. I don’t think they should target women for distracted driving because it would be stereotypical to, with or without evidence that women drive distracted more than men. I also don’t think they should put squad cars around schools because people would be more afraid not just to not text and drive but to do anything else.

  261. yes girls are horrible drivers easily distracted girls always get lost and then when you get them a gps they dont listen to it then they get lost and blame it on the gps thretening to throw it out the window.

  262. I think they should because it is a true fact that they are more distracted. They need to stop worrying about what their hair looks like or whose calling or texting them. No i don’t think we should have squad cars outside of high school it would be a little ex-stream for the issue because its not only teen girls who are distracted.

  263. I think that they should target females because most males can wait for their texts when its probably not that important. Girls have more things that are distracting like putting on make up and stuff. Most of the time when you see someone texting and driving it is a girl. i Think that setting up squad cars outside of high schools inst good but they would catch a lot of people.

  264. I don’t think police should target female drivers because some of them might be good drives and they don’t deserve to be under a stereo type. If a female is a bad driver and is being distracted then you can pull them over. I don’t think its fair to target all female drivers.

  265. yes police should begin to target female drivers that are texting while driving because there is a lot of crashes because of girls texting. That would be a good idea to have squad cars outside of the high school because my brother tells me like once a week someone rear ends someones car and that because there distracted so i think they should do that.

  266. No, I think that there are probably still plenty of female drivers who resist distracted driving. I think that Police should not be waiting on high school ground, because there could be other things that they have to do, like maybe watch for distracted driving not in teens. But I think that there are many distracted drivers that are not just teen females, there are many older people who are distracted too.

  267. Yes, police should target female teen drivers for distracted driving because there always on the phone and putting on make up. Setting up police cars outside the high school is a perfect spot, because they can catch them before they get in a accident and hurt themselves or others.

  268. I think that they shouldn’t just target girl drivers for distracted driving. They should also be watching the boys too because they sometimes mess around in the car, so it really shouldn’t only be girl drivers. I don’t think that they should put up squad cars outside of the high school because I don’t think that it would stop anyone.

  269. I don’t think police officers should specifically target female drivers for observation because everybody drives distracted. They should not just watch girls because guys drive distracted too. Most people have the same types of distractions while driving and it just depends on the type of choices you make to decide if you will drive distracted, not if you’re a guy or girl.

  270. No it not right some women might be good drivers and some guys may be crappy drivers so don’t just target women. Ya that seem smart Mr Andrews did you come up with the second question. No people should not be target by gender that’s sexist

  271. Target female teen drivers? That’s incredibly sexist. Teens in general are already targeted for distracted driving, they shouldn’t target females any more than males. Setting up squad cars outside high school parking lots would only stop crashes on school grounds, and do nothing but annoy people trying to leave.

  272. No. they should not target females because the cops would be being sexist and there would be more leeway on men, because they would be focused on women. Stay that if a police officer arrests 5 women a week and only 1 man. Couldn’t that be seen as sexism? I’m sure courts would have a lot of cases on their hands.

  273. I think it would be a good idea to target female drivers. They should just be targeting everyone instead of just females. Setting up squad cars outside of high school parking lots would also be a really good idea. The problem is that no matter how hard we try people are always going to have something in the car the distract them.

    • Austin, that is sexist bro. That also makes no sense. You say target females, next sentence you say target everyone not just females.

      • I’m saying it’s a good idea to target them, but in the end they should just be watching everyone. You’re just not understanding what I was trying to say.

  274. I think that a girl should not be payed more attention to just bc they are driving sure some girls are not the best drivers but that dosnt matter if a police officer happens to see a girl not paying attention to the road say they are texting then yes pull her over and remind her all the rules

  275. I don’t think that they should just target girls I think that police should target all teens and everyone who drives. This will help stop car crashes, deaths and other bad things that could happen to you when you texting and driving. So I am on both sides with this.

    • I agree…I think the cops should target EVERYONE including teachers, parents, etc.
It’s also sexist to target ONLY girls even though It’s a proven that they are more distracted when they drive.

  276. I think that they should not target girls , but they should be more aware. Every person has some type of distraction. I think it would be a good idea to have squad cars watching in the parking lots of High Schools. I think this because it would prevent a lot of texting while driving.

  277. I dont think thats a terrible idea, but they should watch the males too, becuase if males think that only the females are getting watched they can do it and get away with it. Not only females get distracted driving.

  278. No I don’t think that they should start targeting females more because guys do it too. It wouldn’t be very fare to them and guys are just as likely to text as much as girls when they are driving.

  279. I think that they should pull them over because they put make up on when they are driving. I see that all the time. And males can wait to pick there phone up when it rings or a texts get sent to them. I don’t know about but up squad cars but if that’s what they got to do then it ‘s what’s got to happen.

  280. no, because that is wrong and that would be sexist. Setting up squad cars in parking lots is too much and that would be like being watched all the time. Maybe girl can be persuaded to get off their phone more.

  281. I don’t think that police should be targeting just females. If they are going to be putting a squad car in high school parking lots they should be monitoring everyone that is driving, not just teen girls. Just because we have a higher percent of getting distracted, doesn’t mean that other people such as teachers and teen guys aren’t distracted too.

  282. I don’t not think that the police should only target female teen driver. They should target any driver that is distracted. Putting squad cars in the high school parking lots is a little over that top. They should not put squad cars in the parking lots but maybe look for it on the streets.

  283. No i don’t think that the police officers should target female teen drivers for distracted driving because not all female teens get distracted for texting and driving, only a few. So I think that the teens who are distracted by their phones are the ones the police should be looking for.

  284. yes, i think that female teen drivers should be targeted by police officers because, most car crashes are caused by distracted driving and most teenage girls are distracted by there phone and putting on makeup.

  285. no, though they do indeed get distracted easily and are generally bad drivers. i also think that they shouldnt park in high school parking lots as there is a rush to get out and will cause multiple accidents

  286. Yes they should target female teen drivers because they get so distracted and i bet they are the ones who cause at least 60% of accidents. Girls are always on the phone or fixing their hair or make up.

    • I agree, i’m not trying to be sexist but they always are doing something when they have time and they use driving as an opportunity.

  287. I do think that police should start to look out for more people texting. I don’t think that the police should only target teens though but everyone. If squad cars parked outside of high school parking lots it probably would help the texting an driving problem.

  288. I think police shouldn’t target female drivers. Male drivers get as distracted as the females do so why blame it all on them? They should target anyone who is a distracted driver so nobody else gets hurt. The idea of setting squad cars outside of high schools is a good idea because they can see how they act while driving and maybe they will become better drivers.

  289. I think they should because it could save lives and make the students forcibly drive better.

  290. I believe that police should target everyone for distracted driving. It isn’t very fair to target one gender because both genders are involved in distracted driving. If the police started targeting only females, then they could be completely ignoring the males that get involved in distracted driving. They are both doing it, and fatal consequences can still occur.

  291. No I don’t think police officers should just target female drivers. Even though there are more females who get distracted at the wheel than there are males both groups should be targeted. Everyone does a little bit of distracted driving. Just females should not be targeted.

  292. I think they should target young woman for distracted driving. This could prevent a lot of car accidents and save lives. I do believe that girls drive distracted more but guys also do it and should be targeted for it as well.

  293. Sure, that’s a fact. But to go as far as watch female drivers? Pretty ridiculous…

  294. haha they can do what ever they want if it helps, but id find that funny so i’m down with them doing it.

  295. I think they should set up squad cars for observation outside of high school parking lots because they could save a lot of lives. Teens don`t really pay attention while driving but if they were caught getting distracted at the wheel, they might not do it again. It could help lower the percent of car accidents.

  296. yes because we as teenagers text more than any boy or parent or teacher. they should station some one out side of the schools to make sheer that every one has a safe place
