CNN Blog: Friday, May 4th

Following an autopsy Thursday on Junior Seau (Hall of Fame NFL Linebacker) the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said he died of a self inflicted gun shot wound to the chest. Seau’s family will make the decision regarding further study of his brain for possible damage from head injuries during his long football career.

Your Question: Based on the information above, do you think High School football should be banned? Or should serious rule changes to the sport be made to protect America’s youth? Why or Why not?

  1. Maybe they should put in some more rules for football. Not many people die from sports but, I think they should change some of the rules. or they should add more rules

  2. No I do not think that High school football should be banned. But I guess the rules could be changed. I don’t know anything about football so I don’t really know if they are protected or not.

  3. No i don’t think that High School football should be banned. I think that they should do a few minor changes.

  4. i think that football should not be banned cause if kids want to play football they know what they are going to do and how it mite hurt their body’s or they can change the rules

  5. NOOOOO! i don’t think that they should do that to football at all because you go into the sport knowing you are at lots of risk for injuring yourself, but you must try and put the pain past you and forget it. I dont think that they should change the rules either just maybe get safer equipment like new concussion helmets for people to try and avoid injury. But i do not think at all for whatever there should be any thought of that about football ever.

  6. No, I believe the football seasons should not be banned in high schools because the players know the consequences of playing a contact sport. In my opinion, the rules shouldn’t even change. Not to be rude to respectful players, but if they get the concussions, then I say it’s their fault specifically because they know the dangers of playing.

  7. I think kids should know the potential risk of playing not only football but any sport in high school. With that said I think some things should be observed and changed in the sport to protect the athletes more and prevent as many head injuries from happening. I think football and other sports are good for kids to play but I think there is always a risk that comes with playing contact sports and kids should play with that knowledge

  8. i don’t think they should change any in high school football also i don’t think that it should be banned.i also don’t think that they should make a serious rule change to the sport.

  9. There would be pros and cons to ending high school football. A pro would be that students would start focusing on grades more than sports. But there is no reason to end high school football just because of a couple players. It would take a lot more players to prove high school football should end.

  10. no i don’t think they should ban football in all schools and in extra activities but i do think they should spend so money reaching on how to make a better football helmet and there should be a requirement for all school to have the best of the best that will protect the players also yes i do think they should change the rules a little bit but not so much to were its not fun and they have to keep up the hitting because THATS FOOTBALL #voteforGibby

  11. No, High School football shouldn’t be banned because it is a great sport in high schools all over. Football is a classic sport and it should stay in schools all over. I do think that rules should be altered in order to save some lives. Football is always going to be a hard hitting sport with many concussions. We should let the students choose if they want head injuries because I could care less about it.

  12. I think that the rules should change a little. They need better helmets. They also need better equipment

  13. I think that they shouldn’t banned high school football. They should try to make better rules to protect the kids. They should warn the kids when they go to sign up to play football what could happen.

  14. Based on the information above I don’t think High School football should be banned. I think this because it is a very popular sport in High School, it keeps a lot of people keeping their grades up so they can play and it keeps some people in school. I do think that they should change some of the rules to protect America’s youth. I think this because a lot of people are getting injured while playing football and they should do more to protect those people and prevent it from happening.

  15. There is NOOOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYY that High School football should be banned that would be absolutely ridiculous. People play football because they choose too. You start playing football and you know the possible risks that could occur to your body, but someone who doesn’t wanna take the risk wont play. Its as simple as that!!! The most popular sport in America could not be banned because of injuries.Injuries happen LEFT and RIGHT in everything you could possibly do. If anything athletic studies should be done to make better helmets that prevent head injuries. But OVERALL NO ONE IS ENDING FOOTBALL! “dont wrap yourself in BUBBLE WRAP like tyler”!!!

  16. No, it should not be banned. Everyone loves football. I think they could maybe change the safety rules slightly so it could be safer for the players.

  17. banning football is not the answer, But i think that we should make sure that the kids know what they are getting in to. But getting ride of football is like getting ride of a part of America. You can’t do it.

  18. I believe that it should not be banned. The rules should be changed slightly for the safety of the players. Head injuries can cause other problems, and we do not need any more players with these issues. The NFL also needs to equip their players with better padding and such.

  19. I think that if the players want to play football they should have that option. The schools just have to make the helmets more strong. Then football would be better.

  20. I think they should just make more protective helmets and if any helmet hitting occurs then pull those players out. Football brings alot of money to the schools.
    Also brings popularity

  21. High school football should not be banned anywhere. Any thing can have dangerous reprecautions. If you feel like the risk is worth the gain than you should go ahead and do it. If you want to live a risk free life wrap yourself in bubble wrap and sit inside all day….. Like Tyler

  22. No, I don’t think that high school football should be banned. Its very fun to play and fun to watch. Banning high school football would be unfair to the players because other sports cause head injuries too. But I do think that some changes need to be made to high school football to ensure that the players are safe so they can still enjoy the game.

  23. I think that the rules are fine as they are. Any more rules made to protect people you’d be playing basketball not football. They definitely shouldn’t ban it because school districts can raise a lot of money at events for it. It is also really just a tradition at this point. I don’t know what would happen if there wasn’t high school football.

  24. No, it shouldn’t be banned. Too many people play football. Maybe they should just change the rules a little bit because obviously people are being hurt. People spend too much time preparing for the season for it to be banned.

  25. It’s a contact sport, the players should know that there is a risk of getting hurt. We shouldn’t change the sport because of these kinds of things. What we should change though is having someone at the football game or practice that knows how to deal with concussions. Without someone who does not know, you are possibly risking a kid’s life and are vulnerable for a law suit if something bad does happen to the child and no one is there to treat their concussion. If you shut down football, the child’s who played will begin to have a drop in grades from lack of motivation and they’ll be missing out on an experience that could benefit them in the future.

  26. I honestly dont know what i should think. I dont think it should be shut down, for sure. The rules, though, i am not sure about. They have been around for so long, that people might protest if they change.

  27. I don’t think that they should get rid of football, because it helps people keep up their grades. Why would you get rid of something that people love? They should just change/add rules to try to make it a safer.

  28. I don’t think that High School football should be banned. But, I do think that there should be serious changes in the rules. I think it will help reduce chances of injures to the head or other types of injures. It is still a good experience to have High School football to see if it is something that person wants to do after High School. Also, you would see major grade drops due to the fact no one would care because they don’t have a goal to get good grades. Overall, they need to make more rules and even more safety equipment to keep everyone safe and free from injury when playing any sport.

  29. No, it shouldn’t be banned its an american tradition and the players know the risks that they’re faced with on the field. If the did make a new rule it would change the way we play football, I mean what do they expect us to play in? Do they want us to play in protective bubbles or something. As i said before they know the risks, its their life not the rule maker’s, so i say leave it the same.

  30. I don’t think that High School football should be banned. I do think that there should be serious rule changes though. Too many people get injured playing football and end up with concussions or worse.

  31. I do not think that high school football should be banned because of kids getting concussions. It is a child’s decision to play football and they should recognized the risk. However the players and parents should be told what to do if a concision happens and all coaches should demand a doctors note in order to send players back in.

  32. Football should not be taken away from high school. It is one of the only sports that is bearable to sit through. But some rules could be put out so that an injured player can’t return to a game if they were just injured.

  33. i don’t think the rules should changed because it’s there choice to play or not. The sport would also loose popularity. Also a lot of people like the sport how it is.

  34. I think the rules should be changed, if people know the risks they wouldn’t play if they didn’t want to. They are doing something they loved and should not be banned, because also many kids try very hard in school to do after school activities and they spend a lot more time studying for a test so that they can play.

  35. I don’t think football should be ended, but they should definitely change the rules. Obviously, a lot of people are getting hurt from it. They need to make it safer for people to play football.

  36. I think that the banning of high school football is not right. Kids want to play the sport because they choose to and they love to. If they ban high school football people will be mad. The next best thing to do is change the rules more.

  37. I don’t think that high school football should be banned but it do agree that there should be some rule changes. I think that the should make it less aggressive and all more clean so less concussions and injuries happen. It seems that football is where more kids get hurt and it will affect them fir the rest of their lives.

  38. I don’t think that high school football should be banned because it is a fun sport and that it is a good way to work on teamwork. I also don’t think that football should be banned unless it is based on grades.

  39. I dont think that football should be banned. I also think that the rules shouldnt be changed. Its part of the sport and if you dont want to deal with it, then dont play.

  40. I think that football shouldn’t be banned. There are kids who really like to play football. But if there are kids getting hurt, maybe there should be some rule changes, just so people don’t get hurt.

  41. I don’t think that we should change the rules or the game of football at all. We don’t need to be babied. If someone chooses to play, they choose to play. They know the risks. Once we’re in high school we need to take on more responsibility and be able to make more choices.

  42. I don’t think that High School football should be banned. A lot of students depend on sports because that’s what they want to do as a career. If it is banned in High School then they won’t be able to practice. I think the players should try to be more careful but none of the rules should be changed. Getting a concussion isn’t always life changing.

  43. Banning football is impossible because how are the youth suppose to get in the majors and get scholar ships.

  44. I do think that the rules should be changed. but that doesn’t mean that it has to just be banned. that doesn’t make any sense.

  45. no i do not think they should ban high school football because its not the sport its the people who are running it they should be running the right saftey procedures to ensure the players saftey or just sign a waver

  46. No i do not think high school football should be banned because the kids play at their own risk. It shouldn’t be the sports fault for students getting concussions or a serious injury. Also, its not like its the only sport were you can get hurt, there’s hockey, soccer, baseball, and probably a lot more. But, if its a big deal, the kids should be told of the risk factors of playing, if they still want to play anyway, then they should be able to.

  47. I do not think that High School football should be banned, nor do i think the rules should be changed. The current rules are meant to protect players as well as the game. Maybe if they made helmets with more padding, that could reduce the amount of concussions and help protect the players.

    • I somewhat agree with you. But, if the rules that they already have aren’t really keeping the players safe, wouldn’t you change and /or add rules?

  48. I do not think high school football should be banned. There should be more rules made to protect the players. This is because it would make football safer, and protect the players from getting head injuries.

  49. I don’t think that we should change the rules. I think that with rules or not concussions will happen, and changing the rules won’t fix that. I think the rules are fine now, and people are happy with the rules. If we change the rules who knows how people will take it.

  50. I don’t think that high school football should be banned. I really don’t think rules should be changed either. Maybe they should make the helmets have better protection so people don’t get permant brain damage like so may NFL players these days.

  51. No i don’t think they should ban High school Football. The rules are just fine and they shouldn’t worry about it. People have been playing football forever so why would you ban it now. People play football at their own risk knowing that they can get hurt but we still play it. So there shouldn’t be any changes.

  52. I don’t think that they should ban football. I also don’t think that they should change the rules. What I think that they should do is invent better or more protective helmets so their brains don’t get damaged.

  53. I do not think that the high school football program should end. I do think on the other hand that there should be certain rules changed. If we change them, then the health of the teens could eventually get better.

  54. i dont think that they should banded high school football because it has the same % rate as other sports for head injuries so if you band football you have to band all the others and instead of doing that they should just make more safety cautions to help the players.

  55. I definitely don’t think that High school Football should be banned. I think they should change the rules though. I think that every time a kid comes off because of a big hit, they should sit for probably the rest of the game. Also if they show any concussion, or head-like injuries, they should come out of the game.

  56. No, it shouldn’t be banned. Football teaches disciplined and keeps kids active. However changes the rules might help prevent injuries.

  57. I don’t think football should be banned because kids play football to stay active and it gives them something to do after school. The rules shouldn’t change either because the rules are what make football, football.

  58. Football is a huge part of high school, and it shouldn’t be taken away. Kids won’t have the motivation to even do their work anymore if they don’t have football to make them want to do good in school. Also, kids won’t be as healthy and fit as they are if they don’t need to train and work out regularly for football. You could change a few of the rules to make it a littler safer I guess, but there’s really nothing wrong with classic old football. Kids need to just toughen up if they don’t want to get hurt really bad.

  59. i think that there should be some rules put in for the concussions and injuries so that once it happens they don’t have to play as much unless they want to but not by force

  60. i do not think that high school football be banned from high school because if it was then there would be a lot of kids either fat or unhealthy. they would be fat or unhealthy because they wouldn’t get the required exorcise that is needed for the human body. and plus they don’t want to do that it would be taking a way a passion.

  61. No. High school football should not be banned. There are way to many boys that have a passion for it. I don’t think they should change the rules either. They should maybe make way safer equipment. You just can’t ban something because they’re getting killed and hurt. Just aware them and tell them to be a little more careful.

  62. I think they need changes. I don’t think they can or should ban foot ball just for the fact everyone likes it. They need a way to change how the game is played.

  63. Rules should be made to protect players. If you get rid of football, then kids would stop paying attention to their school work and start on other things. You should at least let them still play the game.

  64. I don’t really think it should be banned. It doesn’t sound like it’s as bad as it sounds. But I wouldn’t know. I don’t play football.

  65. i think they have all if this stuff wrong with there brains because of getting hurt on the field and then getting mad that they lost the game

  66. i think that they should just add more head protection and just tell the kids about the risk and they can choose if they want to play or not.

  67. I don’t think high school football should be banned, but the rules should definitely change. Most kids who play sports know have have to have the grades to play, so they have to put the work into school to be able to play.

  68. I do not think that they should ban football from high school. I think that they should make the helmets safer. And i think they should make more rules to help keep players safe.

  69. I think there should just be rules changed and not completley shut it down because a lot of students love playing football and it’s a school sport. And if it does get shut down students wouldn’t try so hard in school to maintain good grades.

  70. I don’t think that high school football should be cancelled. Maybe different rules or helmets. Players should know the risk of playing before entering the game.

  71. I don’t think that they should ban football. So many people around the world love to play it, and I don’t think it would be fair to just take it away! I think that if you chose to play it knowing the possible consequences, then that is there choice.

  72. I don’t that high school football should be banned. I don’t even think that they should change the rules. i think that they should make the football helmet should be made to protect the persons head better then it does now.

  73. I don’t think that football should change. People who play sports know what their getting into and know the risks of getting hurt. Almost every sport has risks of getting hurt but people still play them.

  74. i think that football should stay but the rules must be changed.many students only go to school for friends and football but if it was gone then a lot of sad boys will be in the school whining. don’t blame the sport blame the rule its the rules that tell you whats what.

  75. High school football should not be banned. If it was shut down, kids would drop out of school and their grades would begin to drop. Students who are involved in a school activity tend to show better performance in school. Without high school football, kids won’t have anything to look forward to after school.

  76. I don’t think that high school football should be banned. Players should know what the risks are but they should be able to play at their own risk. Some rules should be put in though about it and also make their gear better.

  77. I think that some rules should be changed. Because that a sport people like and would want to play, but they want to be protected and want to know all the bad things that could happen.

  78. I don’t think that high school football should be banned. I think this because football is a sport that America loves to watch and it earned a lot of money, which can help our economy. To help stop concussions people should put more pads in the helmet or have a test every year they are in football for a concussion.

  79. I don’t think they should change anything about football. The rules are fine how they are, If they don’t want to get hurt then they shouldn’t play football.

  80. i think football should stay the same in high schools if it was made safer and people were less likely to get head trauma

  81. I don’t think that high school football should be banned. What they need to do is get a better helmet design to help prevent injuries/concussions. Players should be able to play at their own risk. They should know the risks when they agree to play. Don’t play if you don’t want to get hurt.

  82. I personally don’t think they should ban high school football because many people enjoy it. But if many people are being affected by concussions, they should have doctors at practices and at games to have people be aware and to know signs. So that way players are prepared and can still play the game.

  83. I do not think high school football should be banned. I think that serious rules should be made to change the sport. They could maybe design a better helmet that protects your head better. Also you should only be aloud to play tackle foot ball after a certain age or something. This would help protect Americas youth.

  84. I think that if a student decides to play a sport but knows the risk then its their own fault for the injuries they receive. Now that might not be the case all the time but if your an athlete then you should know the risks.

  85. i dont think that highschool football should be shut down because its a good game and a way to show pride in your school and bring the school together.

  86. No because the players play at there own risk and they know they risks they take each time they step on the field. Yes there should be some rule changes because I don’t think it’s right for players to return if they have a concussion.

  87. I think high school should be banned because people who start playing football in high school can end up with bad head injuries that could kill them. High school football is dangerous. The more they play the bigger the risk of a head injury. If they don’t want more kids with head injuries then they should banned high school football.

  88. I don’t think that they should get rid of football because there are many people at high schools that love the sport and want to go into it as their career. They know what they are going up agents when they sign up. NFL should just make sure that the players know of the risks.

  89. High school football should not be cancelled! It is a crucial sport in our country and if people couldn’t play in high school they don’t have a chance at playing in college or the pros. The rules should change and they should be more careful to prevent injuries that are life threatening.

  90. No, I do not think that they should get rid of High School football. It’s one of the only things I enjoy at Howell personally. It’s like the only event that I actually watch and care about.

  91. I don’t think that it should be banned. I think that if its something someone wants to do, even knowing the consequences then people should be aloud to do what they want. I think a rule would be a good idea though.

  92. They should not ban football! I am a football player and I haven’t gotten a concussion. And in last years football session only a few people got a concussion. I don’t even think that they should make more rules to prevent concussions. The rules are just fine.

  93. I don’t think that football should be banned because of head-injuries because then you’d have to ban all high school sports with that risk. Athletes who chose to play sports are also choosing taking that risk. It’s their own decision. I also don’t think that there can be much more to protect the athletes from those injuries.

  94. I don’t think football should be banned. It’s the kids choice to play, they should know the consequences. Just get better equipment.

  95. I don’t think that we should ban the sport, because many highschool boys are on the team, and its a big part of their life. If anything they should try to change helmets to be more protective, and all the other gear as well. Maybe some rules should be changed, but not all of them, because you don’t want to completely change football.

  96. No I do not think that high school football should be banned. Football may have it’s consequences, like every sport, but football also helps out a lot of high school students maintain a certain GPA. But I think that we do need to so something about the rules, and how long someone needs to sit out, just until they do get better, and are able to play again. Not just when they think they are.

  97. I don’t think that high school football should not be banned. I think that there should be a rule where you can’t play if you have a concussion until it’s the right time to go and play again. They should also have more people who can tell if the player really has a concussion. Right not it’s only at a 42% of high schools having a certified person that can tell if they have a concussion or not.

  98. I don’t think that high school football should be banned but some rules should be made to protect head injures by players. Kids who play the sport will have to know that there is always a possibility of getting hurt. If they don’t want to get hurt then they should not play.

  99. I defiantly dont think that it should be banned but maybe little bit stricter rules for the game. If kids get hurt they should only come back into the game if they feel they can, not after a certain amount of time. Also if anyone gets hurt in any major way they should be examined before they get to play again even if they feel fine too. Make the kids get higher grades too than what they can get because studies are always more important and grades will go down if they cant keep up with both.

  100. I think high school football should not be banned. It would be unfair to so many people that want to play professional football when they’re older. People know the possible injuries that could come form playing a sport and I think they should try and change the rules to make it more safer instead of getting rid of the sport all together.

  101. I don’t think they should ban football but I do think that football is a very dangerous sport were you can get hurt easily, but I think that its the children’s own risk of playing football. I think that they already have a lot of rules but i think they should make some more rules just to play it safe.

  102. No I think that they shouldn’t ban football because it can cause a lot of problems and the people who plays it would get mad and it would just be a lot of problems to deal with. But I do think that they should make a new rule to protect the players and make them stop trying to hurt their self’s.

  103. No, high school football should not be banned. Nothing that i can thing of needs to be changed.

  104. i don’t think that football should change. Kids who play sports already know that they are going to get injured some who. They could make the helmets safer but i don’t think much needs to be done.

  105. no i do not think they should change anything because its been going on forever and you risk it if you play football. they should just make you sign a safety thing if you get hurt they .

  106. No they shouldn’t ban football and they shouldn’t add more rules to football. People who play those contact sports know the risk of getting hurt. Most people who watch football get excited from those big tackles or hits. Maybe they should just add more protection to their helmets?

  107. I think that they should just change the rules because people love football. If they stop football then kids grades might lower.

  108. You can’t ban football, this is America, land of the free. Kids will always find a way to smash their heads one way or another, better to do so on a football field where there are helmets and referees, than in a back alley brawl. I believe that if you properly inform a player of the risks, and they want to play anyways, then the injuries aren’t the sports’ fault. If you don’t want to be hurt, don’t play. It is that simple.

  109. No, i think that banning highschool football is a bad idea because grades would drop. Some people who only keep their grades up to be able to play football won’t try anymore and more grades would drop. I think that they should just simply change the rules so it is a little safer.

  110. I think that if anything is changed it should be more protective helmets. People choose to play football. It isn’t the leagues fault that they decide to play at their own risk.

  111. I don’t think that football should be banned from high schools. I think if anything they should change the rules to make it more safe for the students. To many people enjoy football and many kids get scholarships for football. So I don’t think they should ban football.

  112. well i think that we should keep it the same we have been doing foot ball for a long time the same way so why would we band it now we gist need to keep up with new helmets for the kids who are playing

  113. I think that there should be changes to the rules because if they shutdown high school football they students won’t try as hard to succeed so they can play in the game. Plus parents and students would be upset because they put time and money into football. They could also inform the students about the consequences that could happen to them.

  114. I think there should be some changes to the sport to protect the players but they can’t change it that much to affect football. It should definitively not be banned and it will never be banned but they need to make some safety changes in the rules.

  115. Serious rules should be made to help avoid shutting down high school football and lower injuries. Football is an escape for some people and can help them focus. Students work hard in school so that they can play football. If football is banned then they will have nothing to work for. Others have planned to go to college on scholarship for sports.

  116. I think that for high school football they should get better helmets to fix the problem getting rid of the sport isn’t fair also making changes to the sport won’t help the players that could go to college or make it to the pros. If teens want to play high school football the school should have the coaches give the parents a paper on this head trauma and have them sign it if the parents are fine with it. That’s all they can really do. If they are going to say no football then we should all be coach potatoes because any activity can cause a head injury, to get rid of the sport is dumb.

  117. I don’t think football should be banned, but maybe the rules could change. A lot of students love playing football and they shouldn’t just take that away from them. So they could always just change the rules a little bit to make sure they’ll be completely safe, then there won’t be a problem.

  118. I don’t think that high school football should be banned, because it’s teenagers favorite sport to go watch and play. If you take it away it’s probably going to make many people mad because that’s what people usually do on Friday’s at the start of the school year. Taking away football from others is like taking something really special away from everyone else.

  119. High School football shouldn’t be banned. Maybe the rules should be changed so there’s a limit on how many concussions a player can have in a season. Rugby is basically football without the padding but nobody’s worried about how many concussions those players have.

  120. I do not think that high school football should be banned because it would take all of the fun that all of the high schoolers are having for their whole career. it will also take their chance of going pro away. or even playing for a good college team. They should just make the helmets different so that nobody gets hurt.

  121. No I don’t think that Football should be banned from High school. It is the students and the parents decision if they want to be in football. But, I do believe that alternate activities should be available for students. Such as flag football.

  122. I think that they should just change the rules for football. It’s not really necessary to just ban football from schools because a lot of people love doing football. So i think that they should have some serious rule changes so less football players get hurt.

  123. I think that High School football should be banned. The players could get hurt, and possibly have a concussion. That would/could lead to them having loss of memory, and other things. I’m not saying High School football has to be banned. But only that it might be a good idea.

  124. I do not think high school football should be banned because football is a big part of American culture and this sport really has an affect on the schools and how people see’s the schools. I think some rules should be changed but no major ones because again football is basically like an American tradition.

  125. I think high school football should stay around but maybe just change the rules a little bit. Many students have motivation for at least a 2.0 GPA to be able to play sports. Without that drive to actually get good grades to be able to play a sport then students think it would be pointless.

  126. I think rules should be changed but they defiantly should not ban the sport. People who are in risk of getting hurt should not be playing though. For their own safety.

  127. I think that Football should not be banned. Just that the rules should be changed. Because they know what they’re getting into. They know or should know that football is a sport that causes a lot of injuries along with other sports.

  128. I think football should NOT be banned!!!! OR be changed!!!!! It’s FFOOTTBBAALLLL!!!! The players know the consequences for the most part. The only way to completely remove injuries and concussions is to remove hits! And if you do that you might as well change the name from football. Because it really wouldn’t be football right?

  129. I do not think it should be banned. I think we should get better gear, and possibly improve the health. It would not be good to cancel it and people know they play at their own risk.

    #Revolution

  130. Persons should not be denied of the experience, rather specific rules should be changed because they allow for a magnitude of bodily damage that isn’t realistically sustainable, and will create multiple physiological anomalies.

  131. I don’t think that football should be banned. What i think they should do is change some rules that would involve with getting a head injury. I think that they should limit the tackling that happens cause than peoples head wouldn’t hit the ground so hard. Another thing they could do is make their helmets more padded so that they have something their head to land on instead of a really hard surface. then their well be less injury

  132. I don’t think high school football should be banned. I think whoever wants to play it, should know the side effects that comes with playing football. I don’t think the rules should be changed in football, I just think that the players should know what they’re getting into.

  133. i don’t think they should get rid of football they could make it safer with better equipment and change some of the rules for their safety and others safety football has been around for a long time and it should stay

  134. Your Question: Based on the information above, do you think High School football should be banned? Or should serious rule changes to the sport be made to protect America’s youth? Why or Why not? By signing up for a sport, you know injury is a possibility. It was the individuals choice to proceed with the sport knowing the possible outcomes of the choice, i have no sympathy for these people, and its not our job to babysit them and go as far as banning football. Banning something that a large group of people are involved in has never worked, and never will, and just because they ban it from school, doesn’t mean they cant play outside of school, the same thing would happen, maybe with worse outcomes due to not having the proper safety equipment.

    • Yeah that is true but also some students don’t know all the consequences because they weren’t informed.

  135. NOT A CHANCE. Football can be a way of life for some athletes, without it they really don’t have anything. High school football is the beginning of what could such a long road. What we should be doing is getting doctors to figure out how to almost eliminate the risk of a concussion. But on the other hand, if you change the rules, us athletes lose one of the reasons we love playing the game. If I couldn’t tackle someone, or get tackled, there would be no real reason to play, which would probably be worse than getting rid of football all together.

  136. I don’t think that football should be banned. Its a big thing. I mean what would we do for a home coming game? There would be no game. I also think that there are other sports that are dangerous and aggressive. Like basketball. when I went to my rugby “orientation” we learned that basketball has the most known accidents. Its the sports everyone thinks were gonna get hurt in that are safe. I think that the only problem with football is all the tackling. I mean yeah by all means tackle but why use all your energy tackling someone that doesn’t even have the ball. Why not just get the person with the ball and keep them away from it. Its nice and fun to “crash” but you should be using the aggression you have to get the ball and get it to your end of the field. Not just tackling everything that moves.

  137. I don’t agree with that chart because hockey is not on the chart a i know many kids that have gotten concussion from hockey no high school foot ball should not be ended

  138. I think school football should not be banned because football is the main school sport. I think there should be a change in rules but i don’t know how they would change the rules of high school football. i guess one way to prevent it is to tell the players to go easy on other players.

  139. I don’t think the Howell football teams should be cancelled. Football is a huge sport and many people play it. By ending football, a lot of kids would have no other sport to play. I think during football season, it may keep some kids out of trouble, so if they cancelled it, it may lead to more problems. I think concussions and other injuries should be taken more seriously though. Helmets should be stronger and the rules should be stricter. Getting a concussion your high school year could lead to long-term problems. Brain damage is a main effect and I’m sure there are many other side effects. So therefore, I think that the rules of football should be more strict and have more discipline.

  140. i think football is dangerous and allot of people can die from it in a short amount of time. my thought is that we help them by making rules more protective of the players health and safety. we also need to make the game more health friendly and no so deadly in some situations. i wouldn’t want to play football then find out i killed someone because we were playing and he got a concision.

    • Honestly, there can’t be that many deaths from football. I’ve seen, taken, and delivered enough hits to know that their coaches aren’t teaching them the right ways to tackle and get tackled. There is a technique, some people just don’t follow it.

  141. i dont think that they should band highschool football they should just have a no head hits rule

  142. No! High school football shouldn’t be banned! You cant just take a sport and toss it. that is a lot of peoples lives. At most maybe they can change a couple rules. Or possibly even make the helmets and gear more protective. There is no reason to ban it!

  143. I don’t think football should be banned from High School because it’s a sport a lot of people like and enjoy playing. But I do think there should be some rule changes. A lot of players get hurt or knocked down, and yes that’s part of the sport but they need to make advances in the equipment and how it protects them so they don’t have as big of a chance to get hurt.

  144. No they shouldn’t ban football. That is just a outrageous conclusion, football injuries have been happening forever so it’s just another thing that happens. I think it would be smart to upgrade the gear and find ways to make them stronger and more impact compatible. Football is a huge sport, banning the game or altering the game will just anger people, and me. long story short, they should just look into better gear and leave the sport alone.

  145. No, i don’t think that High school football should be banned. So many kids play the sport and like playing it. A lot of people like watching High school football to. If anything they should put more padding in the helmet or make different rules. Because then it will be less likely to happen.

  146. I do not think High School Football should be banned based on all of the research they did. This would be a huge change and so many people would be unhappy and this would ruin their whole career! That maybe is what they want to do in life! Play Football! Yes, It is very dangerous and there should be some rule changes in the book to make this a more healthier and safer sport to play but football is important to a lot of people!

  147. I do not think that it should be banned. It’s the players fault if they get hurt, they know that there is a risk of them getting hurt. No rules should be changed, nothing. It’s a really dumb idea too, a lot of high school students play it and it gives them something to do, it also keeps them in shape.

  148. I do not think that they should cancel high school football. I also don’t think that they should change the rules be cause foot ball is a dangerous sport and you know the risks when you sign up. If they cancel high school kids would get in more trouble because instead of going to the football game the might get into drugs or crime.

  149. I don’t think that football should be banned just some rule changing should occur. It wouldn’t be banned because how are football players going to get a scholar ship if it is banned, and yes there’s other ways to get a scholar ship. there fore i think that rules should be changed and also they could think about changing the equipment for protection.

    • I agree with you, I don’t think football should be banned. I just think people should know what they’re getting into when the play.

  150. No! I don’t think that football should be banned. People are getting concussions because of lack of good safety equipment. I think that the rules shouldn’t be changed either. I just think that the safety equipment should be updated and should be approved.

  151. I don’t think that football should be banned at Howell high school. Maybe just change the rules a little or get better protection to prevent the injuries from happening.

  152. No not at all!! i think the rules are good enough and that they shouldn’t ban high school football, that would be crazy. Football is a american sport and it creates opportunities and physical activity. Head injuries can occur in any other sport or activity.

  153. No, high-school football should not be banned. As long as you have the correct equipment for football, you should be fine without having to worry about head injuries. I don’t think rules should change.

  154. I don’t think that High school football should be banned. I also think that the rules shouldn’t be changed either. When you play football you’re aware of the possible injuries and it’s a choice the player makes. If they change the rules football wouldn’t be the same anymore, if they want to stop concussions they should make better equipment.

  155. I think that rule changes should be made to make the players safer. We shouldn’t ban high school foot ball though because the players know what their getting into its their choice. The first step I think they should take in stopping this is make the padding in the helmet better.

  156. I think that better equipment and more rules are needed. Football helmets are so stiff. To protect in concussions they need to be softer. If you have two softer helmets colliding then you wont get a concussion. I have had several and they tell me that when your helmet it stiff then the motion goes through the helmet strait to your brain. Softer material absorbs

  157. I think that nothing should change in high school football. It is the players choice to play that sport, and with that it is their choice to risk injury. If there is a risk of it being banned then some rules should change.

  158. I don’t necessarily think that they should ban high school football teams just because one person died. All they should do is just make and enforce more stronger rules. It’s unfortunate that we lost a good player, but as long as there are more rules, it shouldn’t be an issue again.

  159. I think that there should still be high school football, but they should make the helmets safer so high school football players wont have as many head injures.

  160. I do not think high school football should be banned but I do believe that changes should be made. If high school athletes are getting hurt more and more they need to have changes. Even a little change could make a big improvement. In my opinion, some rules just need to be changed to make it safer.

  161. Why are all these questions ridiculous? When people join football they most likely know that they’re going to get hurt in some way at some point in time. When they do it’s their own fault because it was their decision to join that sport. Honestly. So no, they shouldn’t ban high school football and no they shouldn’t make serious rule changes. Maybe before they start they could get more information about what could happen to effect their personal health and how to steer clear of that.

  162. NO i do not think football should be banned. the reason for this is theres to many players. and it there choice if thy want to risk it.

  163. I do not think that High school football should be banned. But I do think that a serious rule change should be arranged to protect America’s youth. I think this because kids get hurt all the time in football, some could even have serious physical problems happen to them. I think this also effects the parents because they have to pay to help the conditions of the children if they get hurt.

  164. No, I do not think that football should be banned in high school. If someone wants to play football in High school, they do it at their own risk. They already give their players helmets, What more can they do? saying they don’t protect you enough? How it that the coaches problems? They have you a helmet and padding… This game is meant to be dangerous. That is why people get such an adrenalin rush. That’s why its so fun!

  165. If they ban football then I believe it would be really bad. More teen obesity would occur and the kids who thought they could get a scholar ship for a college out of football would be mad. If they just make more safety rules then it would be good.

  166. no i do not think that high school football should be banned. high school players do not hit nearly as hard as the pro football players. the injury’s/effects from high school football are not often serious. they are ruining pro football by adding all the new rules they have the last couple years.

  167. I don’t think that high school football should be banned. But I do think that some rules and equipment need to be changed. If you’re injured during a game or practice then you shouldn’t be allowed back in the game until you’ve fully recovered. Also the equipment is not safe enough to protect the head of a teenager with a developing brain.

  168. i don’t think they should ban football. But they should make more protective gear and more rules to help protect the body. A lot of kids and adults like and love this sport and taking it away is just harsh.

  169. I think there is definitely a problem with coaches putting the team’s success above the health and safety of their players. There should absolutely be a rule that injured players cannot return to practice until they are fully healed. There’s a fine line between pushing them to be their best, and pushing them over their limits.

  170. I dont think it should be banned, maybe some rules should change to protect the player more. Also stuff like padding in helmets could be improved and should have higher standards.

  171. i don’t think that they should ban high school football, the percentage of people getting this is not many. and company’s are creating newly designed helmets that protect the head better. if it becomes banned, hundreds of thousands of people will be effected.

  172. I think that the rules should be changed that schools need to get quality helmets that can help to prevent concussions for ALL types of contact sports. This is because some teams don’t have proper helmets and it is easier for them to get concussions. Plus, I think that if the players are going to be playing contact sports, especially football, they should have to sign some sort of waver or contract saying that they know there is a risk that they will get a concussion and if so they will immediately go to the hospital to be checked out or something like that. That way we can kinda prevent these type of things from happening.

  173. I think that kids no what they are singing up for when they step foot on the field/court and sports teach kids many life lessons you can’t get in other ways. It is tragic that this had to happen, but I am not convinced that should change the way that Americans attend high school.

  174. No i dont think they should get rid of high school football. It is just what happens in the sport of football. The kids who want to play know the risk they are taking when they decide to play.

  175. I don’t think that High School football should be banned, I just think that some of the rules should be changed. Kids get hurt during football all the time, and they break bones a lot of the time.

  176. High school football should not be banned. It is a fact that the players do better during the season. The schools just have to be better at identifying injuries.

  177. I do not think that high school football should be banned, but more should be done to protect players. Football coaches should be instructed on how to recognize a concussion, and not to send players out to play after a head injury.

  178. I don’t think football should be banned its a national sport. But what they could do is improve the gear that is used so that injuries could happen less often.

  179. I don’t think football should be banned but there should defiantly be some rule changes. When a player endures a concussion they should not be able to return that day, especially if they lost consciousness. Also they should be required to see a doctor before returning. I think so because teenagers brains are still developing and this could prevent a lot of brain damage in their future.

    • I don’t think it should be banned either. Even if they did, they could on their own time without helmets even.

    • Yes, I agree. They should make rule changes and doctors should make sure they are alright to be back out on the field playing rather than them thinking they are alright and returning the next day. This makes things risky.

  180. I don’t think high school football should be banned because grades are going to go down, and the kids that play football put a lot of their time into studying to get good grades to play the game.

  181. No, I definitely don’t think that High school football should be banned because Evan Siemen plays it, and so many kids love this sport. Rules should just be changed or more padding should be placed in the helmet so this is less likely to happen.

    (He made me write that)

  182. No highschool football shouldn’t be banned, but i think there can be some changes to make safety higher. Like modifying helmets to be safer, or making everyone wear neckbraces. But if highschool football was banned that’d be a big letdown.

  183. i think the rules should change because school comes first before sports, and if you have damage on your brain it could effect your learning. They need to spend more time studying tests so they can still play the game.

  184. I think that high school football shouldn’t be banned, but i do think that when someone gets injured enough they shouldn’t be able to get back on the field for a few days or weeks depending on how severe their injury is.

  185. I don’t think high school football should be banned. If the schools and coaches are taking proper care of their players then there’s no need to ban it completely. If there’s really a big problem with player safety then they should change the regulations so that players are getting the proper care that they need. Any athlete is going to try to just shake an injury off and play anyways so it’s up to their coaches and those responsible for them to make sure they don’t hurt themselves further.

  186. No students should still be able to play high school football. I think that rules should be changed to help maintain and make the safety of the players better. Better or different equipment or possibly different laws of the game could be implemented.

  187. I don’t think that football should not be banned. It is the leading sport in highschool. They just need to be trained to deal with the concussions, so if someone gets one. At least one person can know what to do. They should get better padding or something along the lines of that. If they do this, kids can be better prepared for a concussion.

  188. I do not think that high school football should be banned, but I do think there need to be some rule changes. It should not be banned because it is a popular sport that is a large part of society today. There are some rules that need to be added and/or changed. First, it must be made mandatory that players where proper helmets. I think people should try to develop even more protective helmets that absorb shock even better than the ones out there today. Second, I think that any player who get a concussion or loses consciousness should not be allowed to play for at least one week. Finally, I think that head shots should be banned.

  189. I do not think that the Howell High school football should be banned. But I think they should change some rules to make it safer. If they change rules and allow football to stay in Howell than yes they should change some rules.Everybody in Howell loves football and if it were to be banned than everybody would be mad and I don’t think we should ban it.

  190. No i do not think High School football should be banned. I just think we should have people that know how to deal with concussions and should have strict rules about how long the kids should have to stay out and how much medical attention they should get.

  191. I think there should be more technological advances to the game of football, but for no reason should the High school football program of any school be shut down. High School football is huge deal for athletes, families, and fans. I believe scientists continue to study head trauma and technologically base their studies off that. I believe once you eliminate a huge chance for concussions you will create a lot less problems and a safer environment for kids and adults to play in. Concussions are part of the game and that’s a risk that athletes have to take.

    • I agree. Equipment advancements could be made to protect athletes’ safety, but football must play on.

    • I completely agree. Players must understand the risks if they are going to play.

    • I love how we all have our names just shouting. Shouting. Like at football games. Wouldn’t people miss that?

  192. I don’t think that football should be banned but there needs to be serious rule changes. The football programs in schools help kids with being motivated to stay in school and do well. But if the players are being safe then football should be banned. They can make little changes that have a huge impact on the safety of the kids. Just changing the way the helmet is could save more students from head injuries.

  193. I do not think that football should be shut down for Howell High, regardless of injury, because it is an important sport for high schoolers, as a way to stay in shape, hang out with friends, and escape from the pressures of school. However, these numbers are very disturbing, and I think more drastic safety measures need to be taken to ensure the well-being of our football players. Human life definitely outweighs a sport in my book, and with so many football players suffering from these issues, the sport isn’t headed in a good direction.

    • I agree. I also think they should try to make technological advances in the equipment that players wear. With all of the synthetic materials that we have these days, we should be able to make that will absorb most of the shock taken in the head.

  194. No, I do not think that they should ban high school football, but they should change the rules to make it a little safer than it is, and make people more aware of how severe some of the injuries can be.

  195. I don’t think that football should be banned, but I do think there should be some serious changes to insure the safety of all the players. They should make sure all of their gear is 100% protective and that they have someone who knows how to deal with a concussion around in case anything did end up happening.

  196. I don’t think that it should be banned i just think that we should be more careful. Maybe some little rules should be changed like you have to have good equipment. But no big rules should be changed that changes how we play the game.

  197. I don’t think football should be banned in high school. its a big sport in high school and lots of people play it and it keeps them in shape. It think that head to head contact should get a penalty or a suspension to help keep injury’s down.

    • Or maybe make the helmets differently to prevent the injury even more.

    • i agree there is too much violence and yes i know that it is a violent game by nature but we can make it so much safer and not lose so many players because they played the game they loved.

  199. No, I do not think high school football should be banned, because students love playing football and may crush their dreams from getting a scholarship to collage. Football also gives you strength and without football, There might be a lot of students out of shape.

  200. I think that high school football shouldn’t be banned because to some people football is all they have. I think that the rules should be changed The rules should be strict about concussions. Players shouldn’t be able to play for a while after a concussion because it can really harm their brain.

  201. Absolutely not! Honestly don’t play football if you can’t handle it. Even in the NFL they are turning it into such a sissy little sport. You have to know what you are getting yourself into before you start.

  202. I don’t think that high school football should be banned. I also don’t think the rules should be changed either. When you play football you are aware of the injuries that can happen from playing it, so you basically give your consent. Plus, better equipment is being used to protect against concussions. If they do keep changing the rules however, football won’t feel like football anymore if there are too many rules.

  203. Even though I don’t play high school football, I know for lots of people it gives them pride and a place in their school life, and also a sense of freedom. Taking it away entirely will surely cause something of protests, and petitions, and rallies, and we’ll never hear the end of it. If something is to be done about football, it’s that protection to the head needs to be taken much more seriously, and has to be dealt with more seriously, before AND after an occurrence such as a concussion.

  204. we defianatly shouldn’t ban high school football. on average most kids play football for 5 or 6 six years before highschool. to stop them from reentering football would be unreasonable. if they want to cut down on concussions they should just buy the best helmets

  205. Football shouldn’t be banned or taken from Howell high school but rules and precautions should be taken to ensure students don’t get concussions or any other type of injuries

  206. I think that high school football should not be banned. I also think that no rules should be changed because this is a physical sport and if you can’t handle the pain then you should not be playing it. Contact is the reason for this sport.

  207. No. I don’t think it should be banned. That would just be crazy. A lot of students depend on high school football to pursue their dreams.

  208. I don’t think that high school football should be banned but I think they could change the rules. I thin that they should use better equipment to help protect the players. Also they need to be more watchful of kids to see if they have a head injury and if they due they should pull them. Also when people since up for football they are saying they are willing to take the risk of getting hurt.

  209. i don’t think there should be any banning or rule changes to high school football because kids know the risks they are facing when they decide to play a sport like that. it also wouldn’t be fair to change rules for one sport when there are other sports that are more violent and physical than football.

  210. I definitely don’t think that high school football should be banned because it is a really big sport and a lot of people play it. I think that rules should be changed or they take concussions and hitting a lot more serious then they do. Sometimes they don’t think it’s a big deal, but it can cause serious brain damage.

  211. I do not think high school football should be banned. It means so much to so many people and if it were to be banned many people would be upset. However, the rules should be adjusted to try and protect the players more and prevent them from returning to the field too early if they did get a head injury.

  212. Your Question: Based on the information above, do you think High School football should be banned? Or should serious rule changes to the sport be made to protect America’s youth? Why or Why not?

I do NOT think High School Football should be banned. I do agree that some SERIOUS rule changes do NEED to be made. I think so because of how many related injuries there really are to the sport.

  213. I don’t think anything should be changed because if someone gets hurt its their own fault. grades would go down too because you need good grades to play sports.

  214. I think that they shouldn’t banned High School football because its an experience for many teens. They should just change the rules because it could help them be more safe.

  215. i do not think high school football should be band because it one of Americas favorite pass times and if kids stop playing then the sport will never continue. now that does not mean that they shouldn’t change the rules because they should change the rules. you don’t want an amazing player getting a head injury in high school and never going on to play in the pros.

  216. I think they should keep football but do more to keep them safe and acknowledge this reoccurring problem. Students benefit a lot from football so taking it away would be a bad idea.

  217. I do not believe that High School football should be banned. This sport teaches players what it is like to be part of a team and it develops group working skills. If anything they should make better helmets for the players which protect the skull better. If you take the hitting out of football it would be like taking the ball out of basketball.

  218. no i don’t think football should be band but they need to make better helmets that are thicker and will not be as bad as the ones that give you head injures.

  219. I do not thing that high school football should be banned because it’s a very popular sport for high school students. I do believe they should make rule changes to protect the athletes though. Either that or get better equipment to protect their heads and such.

  220. No, I don’t think that high school football should be banned and serious rule changes should not be made. Football is a rough sport, but some people enjoy playing it and I don’t think it should be taken away from them. It’s their own risk to play the sport, if they get a head injury or not, they chose to play the sport.

  221. I don’t think they should shut down football in schools. They should just change the rules a little bit if they have to do something. Football is what keeps some of the kids grades high enough to do things. If they took football away, some kid’s grades might drop more because they have nothing to keep them up for. If they took away football in school, there are still other places they could go and play. It doesn’t have to be for school but Howell does have other football teams. Either way kids are still going to play football.

  222. Your Question: Based on the information above, do you think High School football should be banned? Or should serious rule changes to the sport be made to protect America’s youth? Why or Why not?

Answer-) I don’t think that the sport should be banned. I think there should be more rules and restrictions to football and how they should hit. I think that the sport coaches should show how to hit properly and and how to dodge a hit. I also think that the helmets should be more advanced and padded.

  223. I don’t think that football should be banned in high school, only because its a very popular short here, but there should be changes in play, or in gear so no one else ends up with the brain disorder.

  224. I don’t think American football should be banned. Americans have been playing for a long time, and to just take something that’s a staple of America would be ridiculous. I think coaches should have a professional and come to talk to the team before every season, so they know the dangers of playing. This way it would be on the player them self, and they couldn’t sue the coaches. I also think people should look more into the study of better football gear, to help protect them.

  225. no, I don’t think that it should be banned and it should stay how it is. students wouldn’t be happy and some athletes GPA would probably drop because some students only stay above the needed GPA so that they can play. also they would be bored and the bands wouldn’t have as many places to play without the games.

  226. it should not be banned its part of life today. but they should ban head shots and they should make absorbing shock type helmets standard. those players now what there signing up for

  227. No i do not think that high school football should be banned. Allot of the football players do there work so they can play. What i think is if you get caught doing helmet to helmet contact twice in one game you should not be able to play the rest of that game and the next game you have to.

  228. I think that they should be warned because if they kill themselves then their money doesn’t matter. They should make better helmets. The players should also make grades their first priory.

  229. No, football should not be banned but maybe they should make the helmets a little more safer but I don’t know how much more they can do with it. When high school students sign up to play football, they are taking the risk of all the injuries that come with playing the sport. Most injuries are unintentional so they can’t change the numbers there.

  230. I think banning high school football is a little too much. They should try to make it safer for the players because they are risking a pretty bad head injury. Banning high school football would be a bad choice because the people that play it have to keep their grades up and if they banned it they wouldn’t be motivated to do good in school. I don’t understand why 16% of players that suffer from a concussion go out and continue playing the same day. People act like nothing is going to happen to them but people die everyday and one of those people could be you if you’re not careful.

    • yes don’t ban it but they should make it safer.

    • Wow you wrote a lot today. Yeah I totally agree, even though I don’t play it, because I know it helps some people relieve stress, or just have a sense of placement in school.

  231. they should change the rules to make the sport a little safer because we do want a kid have to come out of the game everyday because he has a concussion. If they change the rules they need to put it good rules but not to strict that says you cant have any contact. Most people play football for the hits and most do fine with it and that’s how football is.

  232. i think the rules should be change because there are a lot of people love playing football. if they band it a lot of students will full behind in there grand because they put more time in their school work to git the good grand to play football and other sport.

  233. no i don’t think that high school football should be banned because if you banned that then how are collages going to scout players and if collage teams cant get players than how are pro teams gonna get their players. if you banned high school football you banned collage and pro ball too. you cant really do any thing to high school ball because high school is not little baby ball it prepares you for collage and if you do make most of the rules different when someone goes to collage their going to get killed.

  234. Just the rules shall be changed. Banning football would be stupid, and many complaints would be made.

  235. i think that football should not be banned. If you don’t want to get a concussion then don’t play its not that hard. Most of the time if you get a head injury you were leading with your head. When i played football i would hit with my helmet but i was going full steam so it didn’t hurt me it hurt the other guy. if you don’t want to get hurt, hit them before you get hit.

  236. No, I think that’s a terrible idea. And I don’t even like football! Banning it would cause millions of people to complain and protest against it. That, and school sports encourage some students, as they need at least a C average to compete. Changing the rules would annoy people, and players already wear proper equipment, so what else would we do?

  237. I do not think that high school football should be banned. I don’t really think that they should make any changes to the rules either. The brutality of the game is what makes it best and if you change that than the game would be no where near as interesting.

  238. no it should not be banned so some rules are going to have to be put into place. but they shouldnt take away what football is and make it like a no contact sport. so if they put rules in place they cant be to strict.most people have no problems with football the way it is.

  239. I don’t think that they should ban football. They do need to change the way that they hit or something. If they banned high school football there would be nothing to do on Friday nights in the fall. They can change the rules so kids don’t get hurt as much but, you signed up for football and in football they hit. Its just the way of the game.

  240. I think they should change the rules not eliminate the sport from youths, football is a great sport its just some of the things that come along with it aren’t so beneficial.

  241. No, I don’t think football should be banned from High School. They could change some of the rules to make it safer. But I think the best way is to have the players checked regularly for any damage in the brain so that way they could fix it right away.

  242. No I don’t think that high school football should be banned. They should just change the rules a little bit or make concussions more serious, but i don’t think they should ban it. They should talk to the football players and let them know how serious concussions are.

  243. I don’t think High School football should be banned, but I do think they should change some rules the protect the youth. Football is a great sport, it lets you hang out with your friends but there is still a lot of discipline. They could spend a little more money though to upgrade the helmets and pads so it’s safer.

  244. I don’t think that they should ban football but I do think that they should change the rules to protect players from having problems when they get older with there head. I think that it would be bad for fans if they cancel football. They should just get safer helmets for them to wear during the game.

  245. I don’t think high school football should be banned, but i think they should really change the rules and make it more safer, exspecially since all these people are getting concussions. And they shouldn’t just change it for football they should do it for every sport.

  246. No, I don’t think football should be banned from our school. Football is a tradition to Howell, and I’m sure many other places to. If anything they should just change the rules of the game, not a big change to them but a pretty decent one to help cause less injuries. I honestly think footballs fine the way it is now. Our High school team doesn’t have many problems with injuries so we must be doing something right.

  247. I think that rules should be changed if they shut down high school football grades are going to drop because the kids don’t have anything to play for when you have to have the right grades then the students pay a lot more attention i am speaking from experience because when my brothers are in lacrosse of football they know they have to get the grades up and that they can not slack I think that this would not help at all because students might also just drop out.

  248. I think that high school football should not be banned, I think that there are ways to prevent serious head injuries from happening. I think that it might ruin the game if they did serious changes in the rules, it might not be fun anymore. I just think that that maybe those who take it too seriously and get too aggressive should try to have more fun.

  249. No I don’t think we should ban High school Football because its gives kids something to do that they actually like and later on in life it could become there job as playing football but yes the rules should be changed just like college and NFL High school should even more strict rules just so there dreams could come true.

  250. I do not believe high school football should be banned. All players should be forced to wear more protection, so they are unable to get hurt as much as they do already. If injury occurs, depending on the severity, football players should be relieved from playing until they recover fully.

  251. No, I don’t think that high school football should be banned. Its very fun to play a fun to watch. Banning high school football would lead to people rising up and rioting all over. But I do think that some changes need to be made to high school football. Just so nobody gets hurt more often and players can be more safe.

  252. I don’t think that football should be band in high school, just that some of the rules should be changed. Nobody wants their friend or child or sibling to be hurt in any kind of sport, so people should make more strict rules to keep players safe and fans happy. If they banned high school football, they would be a lot of upset students and parents making complaints.

    • I 100% agree with you. I don’t think that it would be right to cancel football. They should just make safer helmets for them to wear during the game.

    • I disagree with the rules being changed. You state that they should change them to make players safer AND fans happier. If any rules were changed at all, the sport would not be as good. I believe what the players and fans want is to see better equipment being purchased to better protect the players. If any player was afraid of brain damage, then they could just not play the sport. However at the same time i think that the NFL needs to take more responsibility for the players.

    • i agree!

  253. I don’t think high school football should be banned. They know what they are getting into, and if they get hurt then it is their own fault. If they don’t want to get hurt then they shouldn’t have tried out.

  254. I think the rules should be changed to make it safer. Football is a great sport for young people to learn values like leadership, discipline, and responsibility. Student athletes can learn many things from this sport and that’s why they shouldn’t get rid of this as a high school sport.

  255. Neither of those should happen. High school football gives kids the chance to bond. There are so few injuries, so there shouldn’t be so much people worrying about it. If they get rid of it, kids will have their grades drop, And if they change it, kids might get mad.

    • I strongly agree Collin

    • your right i mean during the season i got hurt but not once was due to a concussion and the kids who did get a concussion was due to the helmets and or running directly into another player head first

  256. I don’t think they should ban High School football because when people try out for the team they know the dangers. I think that there is not much they can change to prevent injuries except to make sure the players are aware of the dangers. The students choose to do the sport and it comes with occasional injuries

  257. Some rules in football should change to prevent such injuries, but taking away the whole game is going too far. A lot of kids need sports to keep their grades up. They have to be over a certain gpa to play, and so they do whatever they can to stay above it just so they can play the game. If you take that away, grades will drop.

  258. I dont think it should ever be banned because its a good sport and its fun for many kids. The issues with the head injuries can be fixed they need to establish a no head contact rule. Also if they were to take football away many more kids would be out getting into trouble rather than being with there team and practicing.

    • Yeah without football a lot of people would get in trouble because they wouldn’t have anything else to do.

  259. High school football should not be banned. You have to have a physical to even try out so, if they do have a medical problem they would catch it. They should have a physical every once a year to make sure they are in good health.

  260. I don’t think they should ban high school football because there are so many people who love to play it. I think they should just add more rules to make it safer, but not to many or else it will just ruin the game entirely.

  261. no it should not its fun.i think they make a better helmet.it would be good for some new safety precautions.

  262. I think that the rules should be changed. i don’t think that they should ban it because many kids go to collage with a scholarship for it. It changes many kids life’s and i think that they are playing at their own risk.

  263. no i do not think that they should stop highschool football. however, i believe that they should present this information at sign-ups so the future players can know the full extent of the risks they are taking by playing said sport.

  264. I believe that we should not ban football. Football has been a popular sport for, I don’t even know how long. I believe that what we should do is create better helmets. If we had better helmets, the chances of players getting head injuries would be lessened. What we need to do is create helmets that absorb impact betters. Kind of like a shock absorbing substance. I think that even a minor change in the helmets to make them absorb impact would be able to stop an endless number of concussions. Even if it did not, i think it would lower the severity by a ton. People would be able to play sports and not have to deal with CTE as much or as severely. As some player say they do not feel like the NFL is taking action to protect players better, I would agree. We see the statistics saying that 18 out of 19 players who died, had CTE. Yet the NFL does nothing to try and make the sport at all safer.

  265. I think there should just be rules changed because a lot of students love playing football and it’s a school sport. And if it does get shut down students wouldn’t try so hard in school to maintain good grades. And if they just change rules to make it so it’s safer then there shouldn’t be a problem.

  266. i disagree with changing the rules and banning it in my opinion i think they should just buy better equipment that lowers someones chance of getting a concision.

    • That’s exactly what i’m saying. The NFL needs to take some action to protect their players better, not change the rules.

  267. I think the thought of banning High School football is ridiculous. When kids sign up to play they should be warned about what they could experience. Banning the sport completely is just going too far. The rules could be adjusted but I don’t know how that will go down with the people.

  268. No i don’t think it should. That is so dumb. People like me play sports and i play hockey and to play you have to do it school. If they took that away then kids would just stop trying. No i think the rule is fine. Sports are kids life.

  269. I don’t think that high school football should be banned. They should make more serious rules to the game. Other sports can have an impact on the body not just football. A lot of people like the game of football and if they ban football, there could be some problems with the the major fans of football. They should make a rule that if you have any health condition, you can’t play cause it could lead to more worse health problems later in life.

  270. I think the rules should be changed rather than banned because why get rid of something that people love? If they are willing to get injured and play, change the rules to were they are covered if they get injured.

  271. I do not think football should be banned, however i do think some changes should be made. Also that people in risk of getting hurt should not be allowed to play for their own safety.

  272. I don’t think that anything should change in football. They already have a bunch of rules and why make more. The kids should sign a paper saying if they get hurt or anything the league cant be blamed for the injuries.

  273. Rules should be made to protect them because it should reflect on there grades and how they do in school as to if they can play on the team or not. They should study and still be able to play the game plus go to school and do that work too.

    • I also think that one that is a good idea but there should be more protection and padding. They also need to find a way to train how to hit a certain way as well.

  274. i think the rules should be change because if shutdown high school football grades are going to go lower because the kids that do play sports put more time in their school work and spends more time studying for test so they can still play the game
