CNN BLOG: Wednesday, May9th

Investigators are studying an explosive device that they say could have ended up on a plane heading to the United States. This is part of an alleged terror plot that officials say was broken up recently. They seized the explosive device and authorities say the person who intended to use it is no longer a threat.

What officials have said is that this bomb was designed to slip past airport metal detectors. On Monday, Brian Todd was reporting on the possibility of that happening.

Now Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Mike Rodgers, have just said, essentially, last night and this morning, that they believe that these scanners would have detected this potential explosive.

But if you talk to terrorism experts and security experts, that is not at all clear, that even these so-called back-scatter, these body scanners would have detected it.  Body scanners are not used in every airport overseas, not even used in every airport in the United States.

Your Question: Should US airports increase security measures as a result of this investigation?  Why or why not?

  1. No I have been in an airport and they check everything. One thing I think they could do is train the pilots because of what happened on 9/11. Other than that they could check and look inside peoples bags.

  2. Yes I think US airports should increase security measures because now that there are bombs that are not metal, there are more odds of terrorist attacks and therefore killing more people. It would be a little bit creepy, but it’s a worthy price to pay when we can keep our country safe.

  3. I think that they should. They need to have more security things. They also need more technology there.

  4. I think that they should do what is best for everyone and there safety. What ever they do is the right choice for everyone. They will protect us however they can.

  5. Your Question: Should US airports increase security measures as a result of this investigation? Why or why not?
Yes I think the U.S should fir sure increase security in the airport. Not just because of what went down with the bomb almost getting on the plane but also for the safety of the people. The airport should be doing all that they can to make sure the people that go to the airport are safe and feel secure about going to the airport. Thousands of people go to the airport every day and what happens if the people that go are scared? Hmmmm think about it.

  6. I do and i don’t think that they should increase their security measures. I said yes because they need to know that the people that do get on that plane are safe from any attack on the plane. All though they can not protect us from the attacks outside of the airport they can make it more safe inside. I said no because when you go to the airports you already have to wait at least a hour just to get through security and the line. So when you do need to go to the air port you have to come about 2 hours before your plane takes off.

  7. I do not think the US should increase security measures because we haven’t had a terrorist attack in a very long time. If we haven’t been in trouble in so long, we are fine with our security system. We do not like terrorists but we sure can handle them. In the future, we might have to increase our security to prevent terror.

  8. Well maybe if security paid just a little more attention then nothing would go wrong. The United States has almost maximum security so adding more isn’t a good idea unless you want security to all of a sudden think “oh we have more security! We don’t need to pay as much attention!” In all reality, security just needs to be more careful.

  9. yes i think that the u.s should make the airport more safe for the people but not go all out cause then the people would get mad at the airport

  10. i think they should because you don’t want some thing to happen. also it better to be safe then sorry.also why i think they should is because you would not want to have a bomb almost get on the plane

  11. If I am going to go on a plane I would want to make sure they had the best secruity possible I dont want to be going into the airport and having to worry about a bomb or anything else. So of course they should increase the security on things. If youre not aloud to take it threw security then just put it in your suitcase that goes in the bottom of the plane like someone wrote something about tweezers dont put it in your carry on.. what would you really need tweezers for on a plane anyways just do whatever you were doing when you get to where you were going.

  12. Yes i think that the u.s should increase the airport security. I say this so that there will be no bombs, etc. They should increase it so that people are safe.

  13. I think that the U.S. airports should increase security measures as a result of this investigation. I think this because it would make it less likely for bombs to get on planes. It would also increase the amount of safety there is on planes. Increased security would also make it less likely that something like 9/11 will happen again.

  14. I think that we’re alright as it is. Let’s not take this incident too far. We have a lot of other problems too that we need to take care of. We have a good amount of security right now so let’s just call it good.

  15. In some airports, I think that we should. Some like Detroit Metro have full body scanners. But, several other airports need to upgrade to them. We need to set an example of how airport security for the world because it’s the only way to be close to 100% safe.

  16. I think the US should increase security. I think they should because we can’t always rely on metal detectors. People are working on making bombs and stuff that can slip past them or don’t have metal at all so there is not way a metal detector can detect it. We need to be careful or something like 911 might happen again so we should always be looking to improve our security.

  17. I think that US airports should increase there security measures. It will keep everyone safer in the long run. If that is the answer to keep terrorists from bombing planes, then that’s what we have to do. It could help same many people and family’s. They also need to have more sensitive metal detectors to get more of an idea of what people might be carrying on them.

  18. Yes US needs to increase airport security because that’s the only way the Al Qaeda members can enter the Country. The government needs to be strict when it comes Safety. We don’t deserve to have another 9/11..

  19. Yes, the security measures should be increased. Nobody wants another 9/11. These improvements should be done in a way that keeps all the people who go through the airports safe.

  20. I don’t think they should increase security just because of this investigation but they should just do it to help increase the safety of American citizens.I also think the U.S. should increase security on other things like international ports.

  21. i think that if the airports feel threaten then they should. if not they should any way. it would be a good for some of the smaller manufactures. .

  22. No the air port security is good as it is. If it were any tighter no one will be able to get on to the plane. Besides we are freaking out about something that hasn’t happened yet.

  23. I think that they should increase security. It could stop more bombs from possibly getting through security. Also, it could even create a couple more jobs. They should do this because we don’t want another incident like 9/11.

  24. YES! Yes america should raise the security in the air port. There are not a lot of guards and so many people racing around to get on planes. How do we know if a terrorist sneaks past or not? We should surely heighten the security no doubt about it.

    • Yes, I agree. You also brought up a point I didn’t think of. It is so crowded at airports. Maybe the solution for all this isn’t just to increase security, but to increase organization.

      • You’re totally right as well. Unity is the main thing. We need to buckle down on organizing things.

  25. no i dont think they should because they are already have increased it a lot in the past few years and it so bad were you cant even be trusted in air port and people take it as a joke.

  26. i think that if the airports feel threaten then they should. if not they should any way. it would be a good for some of the smaller manufactures.

  27. The United States should increase security because of this attempt. If the bomb was designed to get past our security systems then that means that they know how to get past them and will try to do it again. You can never be too safe when it comes to that kind of situation.

  28. I’m kind of torn. I do think that we’ve upped the security a lot since 911, and I’m not sure there’s a whole lot more that we can do. Before long going to the air port is just going to become too much of a hassle and not worth it. But if we really are being threatened that much then I guess we should.

  29. US airports should increase security measures. If they do then it will keep the US safe. I think people will feel safer if they did increase the security measures.

  30. I think they should because they have alot of countries flying people in and alot of them hate the U.S.A. They need to get a few very technological companies to work together on it. This could save many lives.

  31. Bump It up!! Get more security in there!! If there is just one i don’t think its going to do anything against like 2 or 3!!

  32. I would have to say yes. However much i dislike getting probed, it is better than a terrorist getting through. If these are able to slip through, then we need to either make better detectors or get all airports with scanners.

  33. I think that the United States shouldn’t increase their security at the airports. The United States has almost maximum security and someone found a way around it. So as long as TSA pays more attention to the screens the they should be fine.

  34. Yes and no I think that they should so nothing like that happens again.
No because it already takes long enough to go through airport security.

  35. Yes i do think the the U.S should have more airport security because we don’t want a 9 11 all over again.

  36. I think the airports do not need to increase their security. I mean, security is already really heavy and i don’t know how much more can be added. I suppose a little bit more could be added to ensure the safety of people. It could help against things like this happening again in the future.

  37. Yes, the U.S. should increase their security in airports. They should because we’ve seen many terrorist come here and they have almost got away with it. We need to step our game up!

  38. Yes i think they should because we have to do evetything we can to stop anyone from coming into or country and bombing us again. We have to increase the security until we know that this is resolved. I don’t think we could just go with out doing anything.

  39. Yes, they should increase airport security. People want to feel safe on a plane and in the airport, having this investigation might worry some people and make them not want to fly. So increasing security will make people more comfortable with flying again.

  40. Yes i think the U.S. airports should increase security measures because airports are the top priority to destroy because that’s were the most Americans are. So the only way to make sure nobody is a terrorist, they should start checking everything whether its looking through luggage, feeling peoples clothes, or even doing a lie detector test and asking them questions like “do you have any illegal weapons” or something.

  41. Yes, the U.S should increase airport security as a result of this investigation. I think this because the U.S needs to make sure the people are safe. People would probably feel more safe if the airport security increased.

  42. Yes i believe that we should keep our country safe after what happened after 9/11. There is more tarriest that want to come to america to harm so we should let them increase security.

  43. I guess they should why not they always should be upgrading security in airports but it seems like they pretty much have all the most advanced security there but i mean why not upgrade if they are able to upgrade why arent they

  44. Personally I think the US airports are already very secure, this is obvious due to the fact that the bomb was detected. But because there are airports that don’t have body scanners, it might have been possible for something like this to slip through. Many US citizens might be scared after this investigation so it is important that we all feel safe by increasing security. If it makes people feel safer, the US could add full body scanners to most if not all US airports.

  45. Yes I think the U.S. should increase airport security! I don’t find it right that American citizens should have to worry about their safety aboard a plane. I think it’s very annoying that the U.S. hasn’t reacted very quickly to that event, it’s pretty scary.

  46. I think that the U.S should increase airport security because you never know what could be brought onto a plane. Even though they they are already really strict about what you bring on planes they should do as much as they can.

  47. I think that the U.S. should increase their security without making it take longer to get on your plane. I have heard people talk about how you have to go through a ton of security when you get on a plane and they say that it’s irritating. So they should have a better security system without making it more complicated.

  48. If the security has proven that there are some errors in their security, I think they should improve it. Even the little things make the difference. My aunt had to get a personal search because she looks like a different race. Even though they didn’t find anything on her, there could be many other people out there that want to terrorize the U.S. The security people need to find the best technology to keep our country safe.

  49. I think hat the US airports are already pretty secure. But I think they should do anything they can to increase security so there are no terrorist attacks again. The more secure they are, the better, I don’t think that they need t do it in every airport, but maybe the top 10 most used airports in the US, should be given the extra security. If hey find out that they are catching a lot of people that they wouldn’t have before, then they can add them to all of the big airports.

  50. I think that U.S. airport security is already pretty secure. What need to do is have detectors that can detect bombs that a metal detector can’t. However this would delay people more at the airports, but I think safety is a good excuse.

  51. Yes, they should increase security. Loosing a few freedoms is defiantly worth saving lives. Eventually someone might find a way through security and someone could get hurt.

  52. They should increase security, but they need to change rules. You can’t even have tweezers or anything like that on an airplane. That’s ridiculous! They can’t make people spend more money wherever they’re going, they’re spending enough just flying on a plane. It’s just out of control and there’s stupid rules.

  53. I think that they shouldn’t keep pushing stuff on the outside of the plane we already have a lot of measures in place to make sure this doesn’t happen. I think we could get more security on the plane though. I really think the stuff in place is already more then enough.

  54. i think the airports should increase their security. If the terrorists are making new bombs to pass the metal detectors then the security needs to step up too. If it saves a life or maybe even a family it is worth it. act of valor.

  55. Yes i think that they should increase there security and make sure that there will be no terrorism attack on the plains. We all need to be protected against the bad guys, so we can all live longer and better.

  56. Yes, and the overseas airports need to also. So that nothing can come into the country. Other airports outside of the country need to get body-scanners into their security too.

  57. Yes, and no it really does not matter to me whatever they wanna do to their airports as long as there’s no bombing now, I’m not worried.

  58. I feel that the U.S. should have the premier in airport security.I don’t want to have to worry if the airport caught the guy with the bomb strapped to his chest. I think if any country should pick up the ball on airport security it is America.

  59. they should increase airport security because it will keep people even safer then the airport security they have right now. The stuff that people bring on planes are really scary and we don’t need people in the US to die over things like that. So they should definetley increase the security at the airports

  60. US airports should increase security. They need to take more caution of what goes on and off of a plane. This could saved a lot more lives and money.

  61. The US airports are already very secure, this is obvious due to the fact that the bomb was detected. But because there are airports that don’t have body scanners, it might have been possible for something like this to slip through. Many US citizens might be paranoid after this investigation so it is important that we all feel safe by increasing security. If it makes people feel safer, the US could increase airport security by placing body scanners in all US airports.

  62. no i think that we need to have more ways to stop attacks after they happen on the plain so that people can be safe form others even i they have a gun or some thing on a plain that they don’t git killed

  63. I think that the security in airports should be a little bit better like when people go through security make sure there checked good or something. Because if we had another 9/11 that would be horrible. I think that people should be more aware of it. I know when i go on airplanes i am more aware of it. We can be safe if we make some of these changes.

  64. I think the U.S. airports should increase security measures because i think eventually a terrorist group will find a way to get past airport security. If we increase security we could have a better chance of keeping bombs out of our air plains. We could also save lives if we increase airport security.

  65. Yes i think that we should up our security systems in the airport because it only takes one bomb to cause destruction and take many of lives. The more they improve the security the better off we will be.

  66. I think that the United States should increase security if they are coming or going to another country. We have enough security in the United States but people outside of the United Sates don’t have enough. If they get more then we will have less of a chance for people to have attacks on the United States.

  67. I think that the US should increase the use of the whole body scanners in America and overseas. They should because then we would know when there would be an attempt at a terrorist attack or plane bombing. I think that it should be a requirement in the airports now just to be safe and secure about the whole situation.

  68. I think that we should try a little harder to keep us safe. They said that the bomb may not have been detected by a mettle detector. We should try to develop new technology to help catch a variety of bombs.

  69. I think that we should increase the airport security because if that bomb had made it on the plane who knows what would of happened. Now that we know that they are trying to get bombs on to planes we know that we have to make sure they don’t get away with it. We could create a more sensitive metal detector that will make sure that we find even the most hidden bomb.

  70. Yes the U.S airports should increase their security because it will keep everyone safe and not have someone come in our country or on a plane with a bomb or anything.

  71. I think they should, because we might have our lives at risks because someone brought something on that can put ourselves, love ones, and others lives at risk. I don’t mean they check us with all these things that can make us uncomfortable I mean they should use something like twice just to make sure.

  72. Yes, I think that we should have a stronger security system in airport. One reason is because it would make the U.S. a safer place to live and it might catch some terrorists trying to destroy the U.S. Another reason is that no one wants a bomb on their plane so the security system would help stop these people before they do anything that could hurt our nation.

  73. Yes, I think airports should just make security a little more strict and make sure their technology is up to date and works perfectly. They shouldn’t put in simple security system because people would be able to learn how to hide things. I think they should change their technology to something new every month or so to make sure people can’t get an idea of how to sneak things. They shouldn’t change the look, just the way the technology works.

  74. I think they should. So we can be safer. Also, so no new bombs or threats can harm us.

  75. I think that the U.S should increase the security if they can prove they can prove that the security can’t pick up all the possible bomb threats. They should run tests to find this out. If the security can I think that there is not put in putting more money into security because it is safe as is.

  76. Honestly I don’t think so because we were able to stop it and that’s the most important thing. But just a little more increase in the security guards would be better.

  77. Yes, i agree that the us airports should increase the airport security because i don’t believe that we should be afraid to fly. When i see a bunch of foreign people in the airports wearing towels on their head, i get scared. They should increase it but they should not make it a hassle to fly. it already is but if it gets worse, then the lines will get longer and more people will start to drive to their destinations.

  78. I think they should. We can be a safer country. We can also keep people safe that are visitors and live here

  79. Yes airports should increase their security because if the bomb wasn’t detected when it was supposed to then something is wrong. If the US runs test that they set up then we wont know if they work or not when we really need them to. They should do full body scans on everyone because if we only target one group then we are not showing equality.

  80. I think that the us should increase security and they should have something that US citizens can have that you receive from the test that would make the process much faster instead of having three different security measures. I also think that they should have at least one federal air marshal on every flight to prevent any kind of terrorism that would be likely to occur.

  81. I don’t think we should increase airport security. It’s already too much. You either get searched up close and personal by hand, or get a very unhealthy dose of radiation in a scanner. We just need our government’s CIA and FBI to keep up with the terrorists and prevent future attacks, as they did in this case.

  82. I think that we should increase our airport security. Its always good to do more with security especially. We need to be prepared in case anything like 9/11 ever does happen again, also for everyone’s safety too.

  83. I think that they should increase the security a little bit. Since people are trying to make bombs that could pass the security in the airports. I think that if they don’t increase it then a bomb might actually pass and could be a threat to any country.

  84. Our airport security is pretty good but it could be better. They should increase it not only as a result from this investigation but because people are making new ways to make bombs that security doesn’t find. Body scanners should be in more airports because they can see if you have bomb or other illegal things on your person.

  85. The U.S. should yet again increase security in airports. I think this because seems how technology these days is getting better and better people are going to find ways to get past the security systems. Even though security had increased over the years it needs to get better to catch all the bad people in the world.

  86. No. There is already enough security. Some people don’t even like the security now, it would be a waste of time.

  87. Yes I think the US should increase security because although it takes longer to get through the airport and on the plane, it for the whole country’s safety. The security is already really advanced but increasing it would only improve the safety.

  88. They already have increased the security big time in airports ever since 9/11. But if there is a bomb or types of weapons that can get through the system and detectors then they should figure that out. The security is already bumped up and I think it should just stay the way it is.

    • That is true. Although people think the security has gone up there is still people out there who can come up with things to get past the security systems. You just never know with technology getting better.

  89. no i dont think that they should increse there authority becuase it takes alot of time to get throught it and i makes a hard to be right on time becuase you have a high chance of missing your flight becuase of waiting or just it moving slow and i really sucks for the people who are flying due to work.

  90. i dont know if they should tighten it, because it already is super tight on security already. It use to be just you walking to the airplanes before 9/11 and now it takes an hour to get put through to the planes. I don’t think they should if they do people are gonna feel safer, but then again people are gonna be outraged by having to deal with the havoc of the lines at airport security.

  91. Yes, they should increase airport security. I think if they tried bombing once, and did it again, they will not hesitate to try a third time. They should have more security until something is made to detect everything.

    #Revolution

  92. The United States as well as every other country should increase their airport security measures so as to not allow dangers into our country. Life is short and therefore, precious. We cannot afford to waste the lives of our citizens and we should everything that we can to protect them.

    #ЯƎVLUTÎN

  93. Yes, Extremist Muslims are a potential danger. A course of action should be objectified to prevent an Extremist Muslim attack, because they are likely to be the causality of a major calamity. It is not discrimination, people of Islamic belief should be inspected and identified in airports because their religion prioritizes subjugation of people who do not submit to Islamic law, even by means of violence. Potential calamities are predictable in those persons and are preventable as well.

  94. I think the U.S should increase airport security because the whole point of security is to keep people and the country safe from people and terrorism. If there are doubts of whether security is good enough to prevent bad situations such as bombing, then security measures should definitely be increased! It’s their job to keep the people of the U.S safe. When we take a flight to wherever, we want to feel safe at the airport and in the air. To make that possible security takes a huge role and therefore, should be strong especially considering the recent investigation.

  95. I think that they should increase security because if they think that the people were creating that device to be able to get past the security screening, then they need to see what they can do to update the detectors or find a way to make them better so that it’s pretty much impossible to get past with something potentially dangerous. You can never be too safe when it comes to the security in airports. Everybody on a plane should be able to feel safe.

  96. I think the us should improve airport security because, if someone tried to smuggle a bomb into america then I think the us should improve their tactics. What I think they should do to prevent this is they should have a group of soldiers to check the plane’s content when it land so nothing happens. What else I think could work is they should have some soldiers at every airport over seas and have them inspect the planes that are going to america.

  97. I think they should increase airport security because it will keep people even safer then the airport security they have right now. The stuff that people bring on planes are really scary and we don’t need people in the US to die over things like that. So they should defiantly make an increase over the security at the airports.

  98. yes I do think that we should increase security measures! why wouldn’t you?! its obviously a danger! why wouldn’t you stop the terrorists if you could? why is this even a question?!

  99. Yes. I think that airports should have a better security when it comes to detecting things like bombs. I also think that all airports should have the same equipment as all the others so they are all the same and no one can have something pass in the airport that shouldn’t.

  100. i think they should have more security in all U.S. airports and any airport letting people into the country. i think it’s a danger to keep the same security because sooner or later someone is going to figure out how to avoid being caught with explosives. i think that everyone on staff should be super cautious about everyone and be very vigilant of signs of booms, and any other harmful object. also you can sometimes tell by the way people act that they are carrying something, or hiding something.

  101. Airports are very secure already and almost everything will be detected. But if it is true that there is a type of bomb that can get by we need to increase it. We cant have bombs get on planes or there will be another 9/11. We cant have it at all or nobody would fly anymore.

  102. I think that the U.S. should increase their security in the airports. I think that it is bad for airports to have bombs slip threw their security, it’s also just bad for their business. I would really appreciate not getting bombed by some terrorist while I’m on a flight on a vacation.

  103. ya i think the airports should increase their security. If the terrorists are making new bombs to pass the metal detectors then the security needs to step up too. If it saves a life, why not.

  104. Yes, The U.S. should increase security measures based on the result of the investigation because this overall would make everyone safer. A lot of people think they investigate us way too much for just riding a plane, but this is a big deal. We should be doing more to make sure everyone is safe. They should develop a powerful technology that you just walk through and it is powerful enough for everything, bombs and what not.

  105. No, i don’t think that they should. This is already crazy for all of the pat downs and detectors that you have to go through. But it is all for safety, but if we do go through with this then there will be a lot of complaining.

  106. Yes I think that airport security should increase because terrorist are developing new bombs that can make it through current security. I think that the security in airports should keep things private like the full body scanners, using these violate the person privacy. Airport security should increase to keep America safe.

  107. I think this is a tough question because airport security is already pretty tight and kind of a hassle, but if taking extra precautions is what’s going to save our country, I think we should do it. Since terrorists are becoming more advanced with developing their technology, we need to as well. Better sensors should detect more than just metal, they should sense the key things that make explosives. The body sensors should be in every airport so there are no holes for anyone to slip through. We just need to keep our security up to date with technology at all times.

  108. I do think they should increase airport security. It should be as secure as possible. i know there tins of things people sneak into an airport and no ones catches it.

  109. I think they should for sure make these rules and security stronger. It’s already pretty good but adding more wouldn’t hurt especially since there was bomb that wouldn’t like go through that thing. I was just in a airport, and they are very strict about how they check you and stuff. No one wants to think or have to worry about someone being on their plane with a bomb or a gun or something like that.

  110. Should US airports increase security measures as a result of this investigation? Why or why not?

I feel that the Airport is doing a great job especially on the last threat in Detroit. A man had a bomb that had no metal in it and yet they still caught him. That is great! That shows how serious mall security takes things. Maybe in other airports they should increase on investigation, but it will never be “Impossible” for someone to pass.

  111. Should US airports increase security measures as a result of this investigation? Why or why not? Why not, they have been improving there tactics so should we. It would be the logical choice, we cant sit in the same spot forever. They study us, lets study them.

  112. I do believe the U.S airports should increase the security levels because we do not want another terrorist attack. Although some foreigners may think it’s a selfish thing to do they need to understand we are just protecting our country. It should not be a tremendous change though because we have to have a little trust among the people.

  113. i think that the government should increase airport security. they should build a machine that can detect anything that bombs can be made out of like gun powder. also everybody should be hand searched when then get on and off the plane.

  114. Yes , Because i have not been on a plain and i don’t want something bad to happen when i am on it. I think they should check everything to have them 100% locked down when they are checked . They do that now don’t they ? I never been on a plan or through security at a airport station so i don’t know what it is like. But yes i do think they should because we don’t need anymore attacks.

  115. I think that the US should increase the security in airports because that way people can feel safer when they go on a plane. Also it would be harder for terrorists to get through.

  116. I think that airport security is high enough. Although, they can never make it to safe… We are supposed to have freedom, And they are taking that away by putting us through scanners and checking us every time we get on a plane.

    • You cant have any freedom when you dead.

    • I disagree. I think that they should have scanners . who would want something going off on the plan when you are on it ? I don’t think anyone would want that i think scanners are a great idea because people think they are smart and can get away with things but they can’t . They are not as smart as they think they are when it comes to that kind of stuff.

  117. yes i do and it should always be a strict thing because its just not bombs that are a threat there are all sorts of things even people can be a threat to them selves and others on a plain

  118. Yes, I think we should take more security measures to ensure that our people are safe. I think that eventually we’re going to go too far with security tactics and people will get tired of being so closely, when they have nothing to hide.

  119. As of now our airport security is low. We need to have body scanners and other things. We also need to expand how many stations there are, for faster service.

  120. The US should increase airport security. The first order of business is to test the full body scanners and make them as good as possible. Once they do that they should put them in all US airports.

  121. Yes I believe that the security should be increased while people go through the airport because i would not really like to be on a vacation visiting somewhere popular and get bombed or shot by some crazy terrorist.

  122. Yes i think that they need to increase airport security. They should do this because we need to do everything that we can to make our people as safe as possible. We need to make sure that this doesn’t happen again by having better and more security.

  123. Yes airports should’ve increased security measures a while ago. It would be very good of they did and it would cause alot less problems, making it safer to be in America.

  124. I think that the US should increase airport security. They have already increased it greatly after the attacks of 9-11 and now we know that people are planning on trying to attack us again then we should do something about it. But even if they increase at the US air ports it won’t do any good if other airports around the world don’t.

  125. I think the U.S. should increase security in airports. Rather than build new equipment, there currently is 20 million dollars worth of security equipment in the Dallas airport. If that is distributed throughout the country, airports will be equipped with more security. As for oversea airports, we could offer incentives to improve security measures. With new creations of non-metallic bombs, security has to keep pace with terrorist bombers.

  126. I believe that the airports are quite secure already. I have seen scares about bombs on planes multiple times but they never succeed, the bomber is caught first. Security should only be increased if the terrorists find a way to get past the security we have at the moment.

  127. Q-) Should US airports increase security measures as a result of this investigation? Why or why not?

A-) I think that the U.S. should increase their security because it can help in the future. But it should be on everyone not just Ethnic groups. Plus it never hurts to be too cautious. In the long run it can also save a lot of lives and a lot of money in the recovery after a bombing.

  128. Yes I think the U.S. should increase their security because you can never be to cautious. Also many lives are at risk. I think they should find one of the newer bombs the terrorists are using and see what can detect it. That will solve that problem for now.

  129. I think so. I think that they need to figure out if the body scanner can detect the newer kinds of bombs and if they can make sure airports have them. If they cant detect them then they should change something so that no one can pass through with a bomb. This is important because they are likely going to try and bomb again.

    • I agree, I don’t think terrorists are ever going to give up and we can’t either. We need to figure out a better way to keep up with them to protect our country.

  130. I think that they should increase airport security. If they don’t they are really just risking innocent people’s lives. It’s scary what people could bring on planes so I really think that they should.

  131. I only think they should increase their security in terrorist hot spots. I don’t think a terrorist is going to bomb a remote desert in Arizona to “stick it to the man”. Also, I don’t think the U.S. can afford to increase security because our debt is already really bad.

  132. yes they should increase the security in airports. this is a matter of national security. it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

  133. US airports should increase security measures as a result of this investigation because we have taken out the leader of an extremist group, and they are trying their hardest to retaliate on America. Besides, we shouldn’t feel irritable if they ask us questions because we should have nothing to hide.

    • I agree that they’d want to get revenge but I don’t think they’re going to bomb anywhere but an important place.

    • I agree. You never know what they are going to come up with next and if they don’t raise the security a bit more it’s our country that is at risk.

  134. I believe the airport security should be taken seriously, which it has been a bit more recently, but we have to improve WITH these terrorist groups, otherwise, improving afterwards is just stalling their next move, and not preventing another 9/11.

  135. Yes I think airports should increase the amount of security there is at their locations. This is where most terrorist attacks occur, if we stop them here they wont be able to even enter the country. I do believe that airport security every where should increase to improve the safety of not only the people aboard the plane but others that are around them.

  136. I do not think that they should increase security. They are already breaking our private barriers as it is. Also it’s just a waste of money. Our systems we have now are finding the bombs good enough anyway so why bother with better ones.

  137. I believe that they should always keep advancing to create new safety inventions but not become too paranoid about it. I think most of the major commercial airports need to have this technology to find bombs, weapons, etc. I think that if you delete these threats this country will be a lot safer

  138. yes the U.S. needs to improve its security, if some airports dont even use body scanners, then those are the ones that are more likely to be used by terrorists, every airport should have a scanner, regardless of where it is.

  139. I do not think that the U.S, should increase airport security because they are already invading our privacy enough. The full body scanners should be able to detect a bomb and it is the air port officials fault that a bomb almost slipped through. At least they caught the terrorist before he did any damage. Also, I feel like putting more money into airport security would be a waste of our money, and we already need to use it to try and fix our economy. We don’t need to go into more debt.

    • I disagree! You never know what people could try to bring on planes!

    • How would you feel if the bomb slipped on to your to your plane and it exploded and you plummeted to the ocean with no life jacket and your family screaming and you died a sloooow drowning death, or so you thought, when you actually wash up on shore of a desert island where you die slowly from hunger and loneliness? Huh? How’d you feel about it being their fault then SCHIMMY??!!??!1

    • Now when you get blown up, would you want the security increased??

  140. Your Question: Should US airports increase security measures as a result of this investigation? Why or why not?

Yes. ALL airports should step up their security. They should step it up because a bomb….is very dangerous and if they don’t…it is easier for terrorists to get into our country.

  141. yes i do think the U.S. should increase new security measures. I think this because if someone was able to get these kinds of explosives on a plane then they would be able to hurt many people. We need a new way to detect these things.

    • It would also be easier for terrorists to get into the U.S> if we don’t step up airport security.

    • I agree, but don’t you think full body scanners should be able to find the bomb? And, aren’t they already invading our privacy enough?

  142. i dont think they shiould. i think this because it would make everyones life harder. airlines are already boreing enough we dont need to add anything else

    • *should *everyone’s *boring: I disagree. I don’t think a major security upgrade is necessary, but I think airline boredom outweighs our safety.

  143. I think our security is definitely extremely important. At the very least, I think that all airports in the United States should be required to use the full body scanners, and the sophistication of that scanner technology also needs to be improved, so we can be sure all bombs and terror weapons will be detected.

    • I think you’re thinking too into the box. Haha. Ha. Funny. You should probably think about how we need to keep up with the people who are processing this advanced stuff dude. Seriously.

  144. I don’t think that the U.S should increase security tremendously, but maybe just a little bit. A lot of people are saying no because they already have a heavy security system but they have stopped a lot of things getting in and out of our country. If we didn’t have that there could be a lot more bad things going on. They do it for our safety and if they stopped or didn’t have such a strong security, we could be in a lot of trouble.

    • Exactly. It is to protect us and if there are bombs that can get through they should change it for our safety.

  145. Yes they should because if a terrorist gets Thur than they could blow up a plane. A lot of human life’s would be lost.

  146. I think if the US really had something to worry about they would have already done something about it. We could increase security just because of 9/11 but if there a no treats i dont think we need too.

  147. Airports have so much security already, it’d be hard to add more. It takes so long to just get into the airport. We want to make our airports and planes 100% safe, but the way things are going it seems like terrorists are always going to find some new way to slip them past. It sucks, but we may just have to accept it as a risk, even if we shouldn’t have to. There will always be new threats, but since they have been so few and far between, I say we’re doing fine.

  148. yes if there is a bomb on a plane they know they don’t have good enough security and they need to improve it so no person die due to a bomb. Also if we didn’t improve it then we would have a lot of people dead on planes and we don’t want that to happen

  149. i think the more we crack down the more we start invading peoples privacy we have enough security besides there hasent been any major accidents

  150. No, I don’t think the U.S. should increase their airport security. The have increased it so much that they are treating the people that live in the united states like we are from the terrorist country. I think it’s a good thing that they are trying to make things safer for the people that live in the United States but they are increasing the security way ti much.

  151. Yes they should to prevent terror attacks on the US. They should make it safer to fly. They should put more us Marshall in the air if they suspect a terrorist.

  152. yes if there is the threat then we should. it doesn’t matter what you think it is what the country thinks so if we need to be protected then we should increase the sercureity in airports so that no one dies due to bombs made by people that hate the united states.

  153. yes they should to keep people safe, and stop attacks on the u.s. if they increase security at the airports they could save life’s and catch terrorists.

  154. I think that they should increase security measures. This shows that other places can make bombs designed to go through airport security. We need to make it so that it wont happen again and that we will be able to catch them with the bombs.

  155. Yes, I think United States airports should increase airport security, because if terrorist try to attack we can stop them before people get hurt. Terrorist are getting stronger and smarter so we really need to step our game because we don’t want more people to get hurt.

  156. I think that they should. The reason why I say that is that if they don’t advance on there technology they won’t be able to get them from bring the boom on the plane and they will try to blow up the plane. So I do think it is a good idea that they advance there technology so that they can see the boom and not let them on the plane.

  157. I’ve always thought the U.S. airport should increase its security program. Flying can be stressful for a lot of people and I think if they had a great and safe security program, a lot of stress would be lifted off all those peoples shoulders. Also this increase in technology would put a good word out for the U.S.

  158. I think that they should find a way to search if people have bombs or weapons on them in ways that are fast and productive. Making all new complicated ways of searching people is going to take way to much time when there are a lot of people trying to get on their flights. If they are going to make their security system better, it doesn’t have to be complicated.

  159. Yes they should increase security in airports, because if we have a terrorists attack and we are not ready it will or can kill or harm others. If we have security step up we will be more safe. All people want is to know is that they are always safe. This will help that.

    • The question is how would they do that. By having people go into rooms one by one, strip to their underwear and be patted down? I didn’t think so, and there’snot much more we can do to be any safer.

  160. No, I don’t think they should increase security. They already have full body scanners and people are already controversial about that, increasing the security would just upset citizens even more.

  161. yes, I think they should. I knot that nobody would like a terrorist with a bomb of their plane. so i think that US security should increase the safety at airports. That’s the only reason why I don’t fly on planes because a terrorist is going to be on it.

  162. Yes i do think they should increase security, the saying its better to be safe then sorry, is so true in this situation. I rather go through a ton of security then be on a plane that suddenly blows up. And if people don’t like the new increased security then they don’t have to ride on airplanes.

  163. I think they should it never hurts to add security to one of the key points of travel. I mean what do they have to lose? it would allow the people an extra cushion of safety so it would do us good.

  164. I would say that its a great idea for the safety of others that travel by plane, but the mushiness that they use invade peoples privacy.

  165. I think that the United States should not increase security. The Airport Security is high enough as it is. The safety has increased so much since 9/11. Enough that the last few guys that tried a terrorist act were caught and all the people remained safe. I fly all the time to Florida and back and every time i feel safe with the security measures they take. They scan bags and they have the new fancy scanners. Any suspicious item is searched by the Airport Police, and any threat is taken care of. I’m glad that they do what they do and I think security measures are high enough. If the security measures go too high people from the U.S. will start being overwhelmed. The past few times that i went through the new people scanners, it said I had something in my pocket or on my leg when there was nothing. So before they come out with anything new, all airports should get these and they should perfect them.

  166. I think that the security should improve their force, But I think that it should be extra on everyone, not just ethnic people, because people of any race can be a potential danger. And I think people can take a little more time out of their lives to make sure that it is safe for everyone. I would definitely do that to know for sure I am safe on an airplane.

  167. no, as those who would prefer security over freedom deserve neither. i would rather take the risk than be frisked by some TSA agent.

    • Yes i think the U.S should increase airport security and not just for what happened with the bomb that almost got on the plane either. They should should for the safety of our people
